Structural Health Monitoring Specialist - Socotec

The specialty engineering division of SOCOTEC is looking for a structural health monitoring specialist to join our Brooklyn, NY team.  This position works alongside the specialty engineering failure analysis and fitness for service efforts.  The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and in a team environment. Candidates must have strong work ethic and problem-solving skills.

This position will report to a Principal within our Specialty Engineering Division and will involve a variety of general functions, including but not limited to:

• Develop, implement, and interpret subsequent data from structural monitoring plans for various types of structures.
• Perform in-situ load testing and non-destructive testing.
• Analyze test data and reporting of results.
• Experience with various forms of instrumentation and controls.
• Perform site visits and inspections in support of specialty engineering projects.
• Interpret and review engineering drawings as required.
• Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather, analyze, and communicate information to resolve problems.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by your supervisor or manager.

• Minimum of a master’s degree in structural engineering, engineering mechanics, or similar field.
• Experience working in a material testing laboratory and/or in the field performing in-situ testing and monitoring.
• Experience installing and monitoring strain gauges and vibration monitors.
• Experience with non-destructive testing and examination techniques such as UT, PAUT, MT, and/or GPR.
• Understanding of and ability to read drawings, schematics, and specifications.
• Experience interpreting testing, regulatory, and safety standards.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to travel to customer or project sites, (moderate travel required).
• Knowledge of LabView a plus.
• OSHA 30 certification preferred.
