ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB has an immediate need for a Structures Practice Lead -vertical structures to help expand our growing structural practice based in Washington, DC. In this position, you would lead the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of new structures, with a focus on transportation-related structures for state agencies and transportation authorities. The ideal candidate should possess a “can-do” attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast-paced, and fun environment. The position includes significant opportunities for personal and professional development and growth within VHB.
Responsibilities
- Manages, develops, organizes, and implements structural planning, analysis, preliminary and final design document preparation for transportation related building structures
- Reviews plans, specifications, reports, and analyses to meet scope,
- Demonstrated success in completing structural designs and developing contract plans in conformance with accepted engineering standards and procedures for public and private clients
- Supervising and mentoring of junior engineers and support staff.
- Technical oversight and review and Coordination with Architecture partners
- Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with leading external disciplines (i.e. architecture and MEP consultant partners)
- Quality management and monitoring of project budgets and schedules
- Generate new business development opportunities and prepare winning proposals
- Lead go/no go and partnering decisions on strategic pursuits and be an integral part of the of the client and contract management process.
- Establish and track project milestones as well as quarterly business goals
- Involvement and input in key personnel decisions
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, MS preferred
- 11-15 years’ experience, 15+ years' preferred of progressively responsible professional experience in the structural analysis and design of structures or equivalent
- In this role its expected you would have at least 4 years’ experience working on structures for state agencies and transportation authorities.
- PE License /SE License preferred
- Proficient in the use of structural and CADD engineering software such as STAAD, LARSA, MathCAD, AutoCAD, and MicroStation
- Demonstrated success in completing structural designs and developing contract plans in conformance with accepted engineering standards and procedures for public and private clients
- Past business development success and industry relationships
- Ability to travel as needed to client sites
Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Washington, DC is $150,000-180,000. This offer is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location.
