Position Announcement
Utah Valley University is seeking a Student Services Assistant to support the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office in providing vital financial aid services to students and their families. This role involves assisting with the administration of federal, state, and institutional aid programs, conducting student need analysis, and verifying eligibility for aid. The assistant will guide students through financial aid processes, help resolve issues, and ensure compliance by processing reports and certifying federal loan eligibility. By providing personalized counseling and collaborating on committees, the Student Services Assistant will contribute to improving access to financial resources for the UVU community.
Summary of Responsibilities
• Counsels students and parents concerning federal, state, and institutional financial aid.
• Examines applicant documentation verifying information to ensure validity and accuracy.
• Researches and resolves questions about application process and processing problems. Informs students, parents, and others regarding the eligibility for and availability of federal, state, institutional, and other relevant aid programs.
• Utilizes and updates a database, which includes processing and verifying applicants for financial aid received from students.
• Researches information on federal and state regulations governing the administration of sponsored financial programs.
• Researches federal, state, and institutional financing changes affecting education funding.
• Administers and processes scanning and indexing of all paperwork for financial aid. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate's degree plus 2 years of experience; or a bachelor's degree; or any combination of education and experience totaling four years.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous working experience with BANNER preferred.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
• Knowledge of federal regulations pertaining to financial aid including need analysis, eligibility and assessment, and packaging strategies.
• Knowledge of automated financial aid management systems (knowledge of the Banner database system is highly preferred).
• Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
Skills
• Skills in interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and decision-making.
• Skills in making presentations and training others.
Abilities
• Ability to work independently and organize a heavy workload.
• Ability to operate office equipment, computers, and software.
• Ability to analyze and solve problems in an effective and professional manner.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals to meet their needs.
• Must be able to obtain access to Federal Government databases pertaining to federal student aid.
