Salary: Starting at $18.15 / hour
Job Summary
The Student Support Associate (SSA) will maintain a safe and supportive environment for students in the schools. The SSA will respond and coordinate support to students’ crisis incidents with building administration and directors who are having emotional or behavioral difficulties in the learning environment. The SSA will assist the school community and its members to return to a more balanced environment.
Responsibilities:- Help maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Provide opportunities to strengthen and learn skills social skills through the school-wide positive behavior support team.
- Responds to students’ concerns to help them succeed socially, and emotionally.
- Create a supportive environment to address ongoing student issues/concerns.
- Gather information to assess situations involving students’ at-risk or disruptive behavior.
- Participate in functional behavioral assessments and positive behavior support planning meetings as requested.
- Respond to urgent student situations involving individuals with various techniques to deescalate behavioral problems.
- Responsible for applying principles of behavior analysis to help clients develop skills and verbal behavior while helping reduce socially significant actions, which may include aggressive responses.
- Implementing individualized treatment plans as written and directed by BCBA and administration.
- Completing training on the client’s behavior plans and demonstrating ability to assist with behaviors (e.g., maladaptive, aggressive, self-injurious, etc.)
- Maintain communication with the client’s parents/guardians, and members of the clinical team as well as administration.
- Following behavior plans and other protocols developed for clients.
- Participate in and deliver professional development for staff as assigned.
- High School Diploma required.
- 3 years’ experience working with special needs children in an educational environment required.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
