Palo Alto, CA
About the Job
We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves and build a better world -- together. At Ford, we’re all a part of something bigger than ourselves. Are you ready to change the way the world moves?
Join our Electric Vehicle Digital Design (EVDD) team for a 6-month Student Worker Program and help build the future of mobility! Immerse yourself in Ford's center of innovation and growth, working alongside top engineering, design, and software talent to create groundbreaking EVs and contribute to key technologies like batteries, charging, and recycling. This is your chance to gain hands-on experience and make a real impact on the automotive industry.
This is a 6 month program
As an Electric Motor Mechanical Design Associate, you will be an integral part of a team responsible for the design, analysis, and development of electric motors for Ford’s next generation of electric vehicles. You will gain hands-on experience in all stages of the product development lifecycle, from initial concept design to volume production.
Responsibilities:
+ 3D CAD Modeling and Design: Create and modify 3D CAD models of electric motor components using industry-standard software (CATIA V6). This will involve detailed modeling of complex geometries, ensuring design for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA).
+ 2D Drawing Creation: Generate detailed 2D engineering drawings from 3D models, adhering to GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) practices.
+ CAE Analysis: Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) to validate designs, predict performance, and identify potential failure modes. You'll be working with experienced engineers to interpret simulation results and iterate on designs.
+ Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA): Actively participate in design reviews, providing input on manufacturability and assembly considerations. You will work closely with manufacturing engineers to ensure seamless transition from design to production.
+ Concept to Production Support: Contribute to the entire product development lifecycle, from initial concept design and prototyping to validation testing and production launch. This may include supporting the creation of design specifications, test plans and fixtures, and technical documentation.
+ Collaboration: Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with engineers from various backgrounds (electrical, software, manufacturing, etc.). You will be expected to communicate your ideas clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Qualifications :
+ Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
+ Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, including GD&T.
+ Proficiency in 3D CAD software (CATIA preferred).
+ Experience with CAE software (ANSYS) is a plus.
+ Familiarity with electric motor technology and principles is highly desirable.
+ Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
+ Strong communication and teamwork skills.
+ Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
