Our client, a leader in the renewable energy sector, is seeking an Engineer I to manage renewable generation substation projects from conception to construction and commissioning. This role involves leading engineering activities and ensuring compliance with industry standards, managing large-scale projects, and coordinating with internal and external teams.
Key Responsibilities- Manage all assigned renewable generation substation projects from the Early Stage through Execution phases.
- Collaborate with the Early-Stage Project Manager to support engineering requirements and scope development with the Development Group.
- Coordinate and manage large-scale or multiple medium to complex projects, ensuring completion within budget and schedule.
- Develop detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, and resource plans.
- Conduct project meetings and provide project tracking and analysis.
- Provide technical oversight and training to external engineers of record (EOR) for assigned projects.
- Ensure compliance with industry codes and standards, including IEEE, NESC, ASCE, and others.
- Secure engineering consulting resources, develop scopes of work, and manage bids and contracts.
- Support the E&C Cost Estimating Team with scope assumptions and coordinate engineering deliverables for FERC Order 1000 requests for proposals.
- Represent E&C's internal and external interests in project meetings, provide updates on progress, and mitigate risks.
- Work with transmission services to review interconnection documentation and ensure project deliverables meet off-taker requirements.
- Manage long-lead material orders to minimize risks and delays and assist in preparing engineering services and materials in a timely manner.
- Provide feedback and technical support to E&C Estimating for template updates.
- Ensure projects are efficiently implemented according to department processes, industry standards, and safety guidelines.
- Support project commissioning activities and legal in any regulatory filings.
- Collaborate with component OEMs and stay informed of project advancements.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering required.
- Experience: Minimum of 6 years in substation design and engineering, with 4+ years preferred in high-voltage substation projects.
- Certifications:
- Certified Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
- Six Sigma Green, Black, or Yellow Belt certifications are a plus.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certifications are advantageous.
- Strong project management experience with the ability to lead and take initiative.
- Experience coordinating with multiple teams, managing resources, and ensuring compliance with engineering standards.
- Must have a valid driver's license and no alcohol/drug-related driving offenses within the last five years.
- Willingness to travel occasionally within North America as required by the project.
- Must be comfortable driving as part of the position's duties.
