Job Title: Substation Project Engineer
Job Location: 52 Farmview Drive, New Gloucester, ME 04260
Primary Function:
Responsible for the overall Design and Engineering of substations as assigned from the concept phase through final construction drawings and project completion.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:
- Performs Electrical Engineering work requiring a sound working knowledge of utility substation designs and standards.
- Provides Electrical Design for projects such as: Relay Upgrades, Breaker Additions/Upgrades, Transformer Replacements, RTU Installations, and New Substations.
- Provides Physical Design for projects such as: Bus Additions, new Equipment Installations, and New Substations.
- Create project scope definition, project estimates and schedules. Works with Project Managers making sure projects are completed on schedule and within project budget.
- Prepares Specifications and Material Lists.
- Oversees Preparation of Review Sets and Final Construction Sets.
- Oversees Project Close Out and As-Built revisions.
- Confers with clients, utility personnel, manufacturers’ representatives and others as required when carrying out above work.
- Keeps informed of latest developments in the electric utility field relating to substation design & construction. Makes suggestions for improvements as necessary.
- Serves as Lead Engineer on assigned projects.
- Performs site visits for documentation, as required by clients.
- Visits construction sites to inspect work in progress or completed, as required by clients.
- Mentors and trains Design Engineers, Designers and Electrical CAD Technicians.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Manager of Electrical Engineering or a Senior Protection & Control Engineer.
Minimum Qualifications / Experience
Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of experience. Professional Engineering License or Professional Certification desirable. Working knowledge of scheduling software and spreadsheet programs required. Working knowledge of applicable engineering codes also required.

Physical Requirements:
- This position requires minimal physical effort.
- Must be able to endure prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer for a minimum of 8 hours a day
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will primarily work indoors, with occasional outdoor exposure to year around weather conditions and noise.
- Must be able and willing to travel overnight for trainings and/or meetings as required (10%)
- Working extended hours, including weekends, may be required periodically.
- May occasionally lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
