About the Job
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: Drive agency transit bus/van or other assigned vehicles. Responsible for safety of assigned vehicles, passengers, and cargo. The performance or supervision of routine maintenance and the keeping of required vehicle and passenger records.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Drive assigned vehicle over established route at appointed time, or drive assigned vehicle on non-scheduled route as needed to meet appointments.
- Maintain vehicle in clean, safe, and dependable condition, being responsible for minor repairs and cleaning of bus inside and out every other week, (exception-winter time) more often if needed. Report needs for major repairs to supervisor.
- If vehicle in custody of the driver is involved in an accident, stop and assist passengers of own vehicle, as well as occupants of other involved vehicles. Cooperate with investigating officers. Report essential information to supervisor immediately.
- Assist passengers to enter and leave vehicle and assist with packages, groceries, etc. if the passenger’s age and or physical condition requires such assistance.
- Perform other duties as assigned, in keeping with the operations and efficiency of the transit system and SENCA operations at assigned work location.
- Physically able to lift packages (up to 50 pounds) and assist passengers on and off vehicle.
- Possess and retain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Nebraska and be able to travel on agency business. Must have a driving record free of substantiated driving infractions that would have a direct impact on the transit system and insurance costs.
- Pass a pre-employment drug test, in compliance with Federal, State, and SENCA regulations and participate in a random drug and alcohol testing pool.
- Establish a cooperative relationship with staff members, volunteer workers, program beneficiaries, clients, and others with whom the job provides or requires contact.
- Maintain ones’ self at all times so as not to bring discredit upon themselves or the agency.
- Able to communicate effectively and to understand and apply communicated information.
- Attend defensive driving and safety classes scheduled by the State Department of Roads.
- Assist in daily upkeep and general housekeeping duties of the office area(s).
