Summary
Through our summer internship program with The Friedkin Group, we are seeking students with strong potential to contribute to our business.
Responsibilities
As a summer intern focused on supporting projects related to business process and controls advisory and internal operational and financial audits, you will:
- Assist on a variety of projects, including operational and financial process assessment, internal audits, compliance audits.
- Perform detailed analysis or testing to identify process or control exceptions, internal control weaknesses, inefficient practices and procedures, and recommend creative and effective corrective action.
- Hold preliminary discussions of apparent deficiencies the Audit Manager verify and to obtain explanations of and reasons for each apparent deficiency.
- Assist with various special projects as needed.
- Frequent visits to local Houston locations for onsite walkthroughs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
First year, full-time student enrolled in an Accredited College or University pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) or Masters in Accounting or Finance degree.
Students with specialties in Accounting preferred.
- Overall GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Ability to analyze business processes and internal controls to formulate cost-effective measures that improve control effectiveness and efficiency.
- Ability to assess and effectively communicate the root cause of process or control deficiencies.
- Project experience demonstrating strong analytical, modeling, and research skills.
- Strong executive-level presentation skills, including storyboarding, development, and delivery.
- Ability to handle ambiguity and unstructured work situations.
- Team player who can support the team’s goals and project plan.
- Strong communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to shape and influence the ideas and actions of others.
- Working knowledge of MS Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Driver's License required.
Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of the job, the associate is required on a daily basis to analyze and interpret data, communicate, and remain in a stationary position for a significant amount of the work day; and frequently access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices. The associate is regularly required to move about the office and around the facility. The associate is occasionally required to travel to other sites, including out-of-state, where applicable, for business purposes. The associate must frequently move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While the job is generally performed in an office environment, the associate is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, areas in which moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals are present, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the office environment is typically quiet, but the associate may be occasionally exposed to loud noise levels.
Travel Required
Minimal travel is required for this position (up to 10% of the time and on a domestic basis).
Intern must reside in the Houston or surrounding areas during the duration of the internship.
