Job Summary
Assure compliance of all quality objectives at all stages of the production process, through coordination and an efficient execution of activities, collaborating with all plant departments. Guarantee the reliable operation of the quality lab and compliance with all internal and external customer requirements, promoting always a safe and engaging workplace.
Job Responsibilities
- Work following the Mission, Vision and Values of CEMEX, lead by example.
- Assures training requirements are meet for all personnel in their areas, identifies and creates plans for compliance and delivers training where required.
- Assure information and results delivered to the Production Area are reliable and on time.
- Establish and follow a strict maintenance, verification, and calibration program for all instruments in the laboratory.
- Maintain all laboratory and sampling installations, providing materials and equipment necessary to carry analytic activities.
- Verify all procedures and standards are meet and followed according to ASTM and CEMEX quality standards.
- Analyze information and conduct improvements to decrease variability of process and quality variables, achieving compliance above 95% of the Quality Index.
- Guarantee minimum sampling compliance.
- Maintain and manage all quality information, as well as an accurate register of data, both physically and on CEMEX’s historian (PI).
- Active participation and support on operational and cost improvement projects, as well as continuous improvement of the quality lab.
- Support operational departments during major outages.
- Support operational department on process issues and solutions.
- Responsible for compliance with all legal and environmental aspects of lab equipment.
- Assure equipment calibration and compliance.
- Participate in the creation of the Quality budget and assure compliance.
- Assure the optimal mix of raw materials is used for both operation and cost effectiveness.
- Assure all purchased raw materials and fuels comply with minimum standards according to specifications.
- Actively participates in all training required to become the plant Radiation safety officer
- Coordinate and work with all Quality Superintendents through CEMEX to homologize and improve best practices and standards.
- Assures compliance of all autonomous maintenance routines, plans together with maintenance the solution for issues identified for both the lab and shipping areas.
- Informs and takes action when operational, maintenance or product quality issues arise in the shipping department.
- In charge of assuring and compliance of the correct housekeeping of areas, assigning, supervising, and assuring resources for its continuous improvement.
- Represents the company to employees of outside transportation companies and customers
- Collaborates with Maintenance Planner on all work to be done, utilizing the SAP notification system when necessary
- Plan and program together with Maintenance and Production all equipment corrective, preventive and major outages, with the objective of a safe and efficient execution.
- Assures the correct communication, follow up and execution of procedures, instructions, actions and standards assigned by the Quality Manager.
- Adhere to standards and instructions set by CEMEX USA Quality Director.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Chemistry or Chemical preferred) or related major
- 2-5 years progressive experience within the heavy industrial manufacturing industry, preferred.
- Availability at all times to work and resolve issues of assigned area
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Cement experience and knowledge in quality, operation and maintenance of equipment.
- Ability and Leadership to manage and develop people, communication, team work and collaboration with different areas.
- Result oriented, identifies issues and drives the decision process, through an analytic mind, coordinate and work on different activities simultaneously
- Ability to plan and coordinate activities within supervised personnel and other departments
- Self-motivated, fast-learner in high paced working environment
- Detail oriented and ability to set priorities and complete goals and objectives in a timely and orderly manner
- Ability to work under pressure
- Positive customer service attitude
- Computer savvy, Microsoft Office software
Working Conditions
- Exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise and working outside
- Must wear all necessary protective equipment while at the location
Physical Requirements
- Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and stair climbing to a significant degree
- Heavy Work-Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds or force frequently.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate in English, talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipment
- Must be capable of working at heights and confined spaces
- Must pass physical screening, hearing test and drug/alcohol screen
