The City of Torrance is recruiting for a Supervising Administrative Assistant

 to be part of the Public Works Department Team!

The Department

The Public Works Department provides services to Torrance residents, businesses, and other City departments to improve and maintain the City’s streets, sidewalks, landscaping, traffic sewers, and water system. The Department is responsible for civil and traffic engineering, trash and recycling, sewer and wastewater, street sweeping, street operations, city trees and landscapes, and water services.   The department is made up of six divisions, which include Administration, Engineering, Sanitation Services, Street Operations, Streetscape/Landscape, and Water Services. 

The Position

Under direction, the Supervising Administrative Assistant plans, directs and supervises office operations, office support staff and the Public Work's administrative support functions including the processing of payroll and department invoices, records management and the purchasing and maintenance of office supplies inventory and related records.

This position provides administrative and highly complex secretarial support to the department head, managers and staff and serves as point of contact for the department coordinating communication, information, schedules and activities, tracking activities to ensure appropriate and timely response.

The Supervising Administrative Assistant serves as resource to management and staff on departmental policies, procedures and systems while ensuring the effective maintenance of various personnel records and databases, including employee time and leave balances. Performs special projects as assigned and other related work as required.
