About the Job
The Pharmacist II (Supervising Pharmacist) performs complex pharmaceutical work under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, overseeing daily operations and ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision & Staffing:
- Supervises pharmacy personnel, ensuring proper training, competency, and performance evaluations.
- Manages staffing levels, hiring, and verification of staff qualifications, including licenses and certifications.
- Utilizes performance management tools to develop staff and address disciplinary actions when necessary.
Pharmacy Operations:
- Oversees pharmaceutical care, including medication order reviews, drug dispensing, and compliance with insurance processes (Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial).
- Develops and implements policies and procedures for outpatient pharmacy operations, ensuring alignment with current standards.
- Maintains inventory, and drug storage, and ensures regulatory compliance with state, federal, and hospital guidelines.
Consultation & Compliance:
- Provides consultative services to clinical staff and injured hospital employees.
- Monitors patient drug therapy for safety and efficacy, including interactions and contraindications.
- Ensures compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC), CMS, TAC, and agency regulations.
Performance Improvement:
- Coordinates and analyzes performance improvement activities, reviewing data and processes for continuous enhancement of pharmacy services.
- Ensures compliance with performance indicators and regulatory standards.
Reports & After-Hours Coverage:
- Prepares required pharmacy reports and participates in facility and statewide committees.
- Provides after-hours coverage for pharmacy services as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of pharmacology, state and federal laws, and pharmaceutical standards.
- Proficiency with pharmacy management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to manage staff, maintain records, and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Skilled in effective communication (English and Spanish preferred).
Licensure Requirements:
- Licensed Pharmacist in good standing with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
Initial Selection Criteria:
- Relevant experience in pharmaceutical work.
- Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited institution.
