Who are we hiring?
The Supervisor Custodial Services is responsible for the daily administrative process pertaining to cleaning operations of Madison Square Garden’s venues. The Supervisor will prepare and assign daily work schedules, manage projects, and direct union custodial employees.
What will you do?
- Responsible for the daily administration of the Custodial department.
- Orchestrate daily labor activities to foster a seamless and cooperative delivery of service while minimizing internal conflict.
- Highly responsive to emergencies in a fast paced, time sensitive environment.
- Direct custodial trades during Arena, Theater, Expo Center and 3rd floor events.
- Familiar with event budgets and consciously manage custodial labor cost for event and post event cleaning.
- Generates and reviews timesheets while scheduling and monitoring labor hours on the electronic time and attendance system.
- Plan, schedule and organize all shift work.
- Manage the cleaning material and supply inventory as well as the inventory for all restroom consumables. Track spending throughout the year.
- Responsible for maintaining a first-class operation, delivering superior service to internal and external clients.
- Respond to calls during events, and work in collaboration with the Concourse Managers & Supervisors to ensure all areas within the Arena are cleaned and staffed appropriately.
- Maintains strong working relationships with other departments and trade staff to ensure a coordinated effort of the workforce.
- Assist in the hiring and interviewing for restroom attendants and custodians.
- Supervise 120+ full-time and part-time cleaning staff including restroom attendants.
What do you need to succeed?
- The ideal candidate will have a minimum 2-3 years’ management experience, and knowledge of events, sports, theatre operations, within an entertainment venue.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills, with a high attention to detail.
- Experience building and managing labor and material budgets.
- Previous supervisory experience in Custodial/Housekeeping with an emphasis on administration preferred.
- Candidates who have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours of college-level coursework (representing 2 years), or have shown similar self-development through certifications, trade school coursework, etc. are preferred.
- Experience managing union staff preferred.
- Ability to manage cross functional teams and building relationships is essential.
- Excellent communication skills, ability to mobilize key stakeholders, and engage with all levels in the organization.
- Ability to engage and develop collaborative relationships and influence within team and across functions, even without direct reporting relationship.
- Adept at maintaining a positive, open, approachable, and professional relationship with a diverse group.
- Comfortable with managing conflict and responding to customer problems with a sense of urgency.
- Ability to demonstrate success in managing multiple tasks while under tight deadlines.
- Experience motivating, and encouraging exceptional performance.
- Ability to hold team accountable for outcomes and monitor performance.
- Successful track record of measuring improvements in customer satisfaction and loyalty.
- Demonstrated experience coaching, mentoring and developing staff to perform at high levels.
- Ability to navigate internal organization/process.
- Proactive self-starter and able to work collaboratively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Special Requirements:
- Must be available to work an overnight schedule from 11pm - 7am, the schedule will vary at times.
- Candidate must be flexible with hours, nights, weekends and holidays.
