JOB SUMMARY
The Supervisor of Genetic Counseling, in partnership with Senior Management, is accountable for oversight of the day to day operations of the Genetics department. The supervisor will assist in planning, developing, implementing, evaluting and monitoring policies and procedures, budgets, allocation of resources, quality and performance initiatives, and creation of goals and objectives in coordination with multiple facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
+ Supervise daily activities of the Genetics Department and staff to ensure efficient operation, budget preparation and oversight, and scheduling for clinical practice needs as well as staff aherance to standards of behavior, corporate policies and practices, and patient satisfaction standards.
+ Assist with oversight of cancer genetic counseling services, including ongoing monitoring and adjustment of processes to ensure balance of clinical excellence, patient satisfaction, and efficiency.
+ Ensure partnership with clinical staff to increase referrals to appropriate patient to the department.
+ Mentors other genetic counselor staff members including one on one performance discussions and performance reviews.
+ Develops, implements, and maintains training program for internship and clinical rotation for genetic counseling students.
+ Develops, implements, and maintains genetic counseling services providing risk assessments, facilitating genetic testing process, provides standard recommendations for diagnosis specific screening prevention based on personalized risk.
+ Communicates all genetic test results, risk estimates, and standard recommendations to the patient and any referring physician.
+ Recognizes, responds to and provides follow up to issues, concerns, and suggestions on behalf of patients, caregivers, administration and staff members.
+ Addresses ethical issues through a systematic process using institutional ethics committee as needed.
+ Services as a clinical onsite contact for physicians, administration and staff.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
+ Communicate thoughts clearly both verbally and in writing.
+ Knowledge of professional etiquette, HIPAA regulations, and patient rights.
+ General computer skills, including but not limited to: using required software applications, data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and email.
+ Interpersonal skills to interact with a wide-range of constituencies.
+ Ability to help patients and/or family members in understanding genetic disorders.
+ Ability to apply genetic counseling methods and techniques as well as knowledge of the BSWH Genetic Counseling Department/Program.
