Overall Summary:
The Supervisor of Operations I leads department employees and completes all job orders in an efficient and profitable manner to ensure that the department meets or exceeds production objectives. The Supervisor will develop a full understanding of their team under their direct supervision.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The person in this role will manage a team of approximately 15 to 35 employees. The supervisor will recruit quality employees to provide high-quality customer support.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Meet department measurement goals, including waste reduction, billable hours, utilization improvement, spoilage, and rework.
Ensure employee adherence to company safety policies.
Partner with employees to ensure shift metrics are met or exceeded.
Maintain an active presence on the production floor; foster a cooperative and harmonious working environment; maximize employee morale and productivity.
Establish innovative, cost-effective, and proactive methods to serve customers and meet goals.
Schedule staff according to workload and productivity goals; adjust workflow, team responsibilities, shift inventories, and equipment maintenance as necessary.
Ensure all quality and color standards and procedures are followed; identify and address opportunities to improve quality and reduce rework toward key objective of zero defects.
Oversee set-ups to reduce change times.
Maintain weekly department production reports.
Ensure compliance with all state and federal environmental, safety, and health regulations.
Work closely with department manager in identifying an effective staffing level plan.
Assist department manager in identifying and evaluating equipment to meet strategic initiatives.
Communicate effectively with managers and supervisors in other facilities; collaborate to reach or exceed planned profit margins.
Comply fully with company human relations' policy and practice. Confer with Human Resources management to assure employee issues are addressed appropriately. Coordinate with HR on pertinent matters such as recruitment and selection, placement, compensation, training, performance reviews, promotion, discipline, termination, etc.
Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.
Coach and develop direct reports.
Promote safety as a number one priority.
Perform daily payroll functions; make applicable corrections, enter and manage PTO for direct reports.
Perform other (or other related) duties as applicable or assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities/Competencies:
Fundamental English reading and writing skills.
Microsoft Office Suite proficiency; Foundation experience a plus.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated well-developed strategic thinking.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Bilingual is a plus, preferably Spanish.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in manufacturing field or business a plus (will consider comparable industry experience in lieu of education).
3-5 years' manufacturing/production experience.
2+ years' proven supervisory experience in a manufacturing capacity, preferably with a background in the direct response industry.
Previous participation on a safety team and/or other safety training preferred.
Lean manufacturing and/or quality control training preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work consecutively 12-hour shifts, rotating 3 or 4 days per week including weekend rotations.
Ability to provide after-hours support when needed.
Ability to maintain an active physical presence on the production floor.
Standard climate-controlled production environment; exposure to loud noise (PPE is provided).
Ability to lift, carry and push/pull up to 35 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, pivot, crouch, squat, kneel, and stoop for up to 12 hours.
Upper extremity motion requirements: fine motor movements, pushing/pulling with arms, g asping and pinching.
Lower extremity motion requirements: reaching.
