Administrative/Management Functions
Responsible for planning and directing the overall management of nursing services during assigned shifts and functions as the administrative support and resource person for all hospital services.
Acts as a resource to and collaborates with all departments, Nursing Directors, and nursing staff in the evaluation and allocation of staff, admissions, and other resources.
Assists Staffing Office personnel in allocating available staff to patient care units; makes final staffing decisions.
Acts as liaison between health care providers, physicians, patients, and families.
Handles media inquiries and works collaboratively with all public service representatives.
Identifies and promotes areas of cost containment and resource management and communicates information to co-workers and medical staff. Initiates cost reductions and savings which maintain quality yet improve hospital financial accountability.
Supports the coordination, communication and collaboration of patient placement and management through frequent rounding to all patient care areas
Nursing Resource Management
Monitors, directs, and supervises staff to ensure delivery of safe patient care while maintaining an environment which encourages retention, development of staff, and customer service.
Schedules, coordinates, and directs the activities of Nursing Resource Unit personnel. Assists in evaluation and goal development of Nursing Resource Unit personnel and other staff members.
Selects, trains/orients and assigns Nursing Resource Unit employees, evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel action.
Utilizes principles of coaching in the development process. Collaborates in setting measurable goals and objectives for improved performance. Measures progress regularly through individual coaching sessions.
Ensures competency of staff by developing and implementing plans to meet staff learning needs.
Knowledgeable of hospital Code of Conduct. Consults with Human Resources regarding deviations from Code and takes corrective action as necessary.
Quality Management/Quality of Care
Demonstrates knowledge of quality management systems and assists the organization in achievement of its' quality management programs.
Demonstrates accurate knowledge of relevant laws, standards, and regulations as well as system, hospital, and departmental policies and procedures affecting decisions and interpretations.
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement programs, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
Maintains confidentiality of employee and patient information consistent with established guidelines, policies, and procedures. Uses discretion when discussing patient and organizational information.
Directs the maintenance of hospital facilities, equipment, supplies, and materials in a condition to promote the efficiency, health, comfort, and safety of patients and employees.
Participates on Continuous Quality Improvement teams.
Provides suggestions to improve overall quality and day-to-day operations.
Investigates any unusual occurrences or untoward incidents involving patients, employees, or visitors; makes appropriate notifications and participates in follow-up as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS
Level of Education
Minimum: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or current enrollment in a BSN program with an anticipated graduation date within an established timeframe
Preferred: Master's Degree or equivalent education and experience
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
Minimum: Current California Registered Nurse license and BLS from the American Heart Association.
Preferred: Certification in specialty area
Technical Requirements
Minimum: Comprehensive knowledge of nursing principals, theories, and practices, including Infection Control, with demonstrated clinical expertise in area of practice. Knowledge of administration of prescribed medications and treatments. MS Word, Excel, and Outlook skills required.
Years of Related Work Experience
Minimum: Three (3) years of Registered Nurse experience in at least two different acute care areas.
Preferred: Three (3) years of demonstrated leadership experience of increasingly greater responsibility in an acute care hospital.
