Job Summary: The Clinical Supervisor has the responsibility of supervising the respiratory therapy staff. The Clinical Supervisor is a licensed professional with responsibility for day-to-day operation of assigned department, which may include clinical care, clinical oversight, quality assurance and regulatory compliance, educational and training program(s), human resources management and/or other areas.
Responsibilities:
- Supervises and administers respiratory therapy to patients as described by a physician
- Supervises and sets up the use of all respiratory therapy equipment
- Monitors all respiratory therapy patients to ensure that physician instructions are implemented
- Maintains a complete record-keeping system of use and upkeep of the respiratory equipment
- Maintains adequate supplies of oxygen and other therapeutic gases
- Consults with physicians, nurses and other staff on respiratory therapy matters
- Instructs students in respiratory therapy technique and practices
- Participates in the selectuion of new equipment, future planning, and development
- Enforces safety rules and regulations
- Provides inservice education for the department and other personnel
- Keeps up to date of current development in the field through publications, lectures, and conferences
- Supervises the implementation of departmental policy and procedures
- Oversees equipment maintenance and care
- Maintains adequate amounts of supplies
- Maintains departmental statistics
- Insures the department conforms to quality assurance standards
- Ensures the department's conformance to quality assurance standards.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of acute care and ICU experience.
Education: Associates Degree, required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Masters degree, preferred.
Licenses / Certifications: Clinical licensed RT with registration issued by New York State Education Department as a Respiratory Therapist
Other: Ability to work closely with other clinical professionals, physicians and nursing personnel in the institution. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities. Strong clinical knowledge and excellent communication skills to articulate to clinical and non-clinical staff. Ability to maintain accuracy of work and attention to detail.
