PositionSummary
This position is responsible for supporting the Manager/Director in the development, implementation and adherence to all activities, policies, and procedures for business of applicable departments. This position is responsible for direct supervision of patient account, coding, and access staff. Ensures daily functions of charge capture, coding, export, review, edits, and eligibility are complete and accurate to maintain revenue integrity and compliance. This position should set the standard for excellence in work ethics and expect no less from staff members. This position is responsible for the effective relationship and performance accountability of specific areas of responsibility in the department. This position is responsible for measurement of strategic department goals in relation to expected performance measures. Development of proper reporting methods to evaluate and improve staff productivity will be a function of this position. This position should also have strong leadership and management skills and function well in a team environment. Handles employee complaints, grievances and provides resolutions as appropriate. This position reports directly to the Manager and maintains close and effective working relationships with Department Director, other manager (s), supervisors, and staff members in the department to promote efficient workflow.
Minimum Requirements
Education
· High School diploma or equivalency
Experience
· Five or greater years of experience in healthcare access, customer service, office and /or financial setting
· Or two or greater years of experience as Patient Access Specialist
· Or two or greater years of experience in a leadership position
License/Registration/Certifications
· Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) (within three years of job classification change)
Preferred Requirements
Preferred Education
· Associates or bachelor’s degree in business or healthcare related field.
Preferred Experience
· Minimum three years of experience as Patient Access Specialist
· Or minimum three years of experience in a leadership position
Core Job Responsibilities
· Responsible for supervising, organizing, and monitoring the daily operation of the PAS department
· Assists department manager with financial performance as it relates to expenses and department budget
· Works closely with management of clinical areas to provide efficient operation of department processes to ensure a positive patient experience
· Identify all registration occurrence trends based on work queue items and provide education of steps to prevent future avoidable occurrences
· Conducts compliance audits for state and federal regulatory bodies, i.e. HICO, Integrity, RTE, etc., and document account findings and follows up with associates
· Oversight of all patient wait times and customer concerns and monitor medical order issue trends
· Monitors continuing education for existing associates for efficient and effective department operation stability
· Assists manager with hiring and supervising the training of new PAS associates
· Performs associate and patient rounding
· Creates and maintains work schedule including approving or denying PTO requests and flexing staff up/down per department volume for all associates ensuring adequate coverage
· On call for nights, holidays and weekends as determined by department manager
· Accountable for associates who call in for work and determines readjustment of staffing needs for adequate department coverage
· Assists manager with annual associate performance appraisal
· Timekeeper responsibilities in Kronos
· Must be able to work well under stress to meet the requirements and deadlines of a busy department
· Must be in good physical condition, have adequate vision in daily work, good hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity
· Always exhibit and maintain professional appearance
· Must be able to embrace and adapt to an ever-changing work environment while encouraging others to accept the change in a positive manner
