About the Job
The Surgical Services Clerk II is responsible for timely, accurate, compliant charge review and charge capture for services provided in the Surgical Services Department. The Specialist must review documentation, identify, and capture chargeable items and services, and perform all required steps for account completion. Position is onsite and may assist in the Surgical Services Clerk responsibilities as needed.
ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Reviews and evaluates each surgery case for times, identifiable charges, and completions.
2. Captures charges accurately in patient accounting system in a timely manner.
3. Reviews and resolves issues related to incomplete or inaccurate charges on patient accounts.
4. Maintains knowledge of and follows all charging and billing regulations as well as corporate compliance plans.
5. Collaborates with other charge posters and keeps unit manager/director informed of questionable situations.
6. Confirms/verifies billing on special charges with reps (i.e., implants, special equipment, cell saver).
7. Provides feedback to management on issues that impede timeliness or quality of billing.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Skills: Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language. Must be able to communicate in person and have basic written communication skills. Must be able to operate a computer, word processor, and general office equipment. Must be able to maintain logs, records, and organize information. Must be able to deal effectively with a changing environment and be open to new ideas. Must demonstrate a high level of mental and emotional tolerance, with ability to function quickly and precisely in stressful situations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Years of Experience: Experience as a clerk or file clerk preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Personal Protective Equipment: Nonsterile medical gloves.
Physical Demands: Must be able to carry up to 10 lbs., with occasional lifting up to 20 lbs. Frequent prolonged standing, sitting, walking. Manual dexterity required. Frequent multiple demands by a variety of individuals. Must be able to see, hear, and move intermittently, or use prosthetics that will enable you to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be met. Possible exposure to infection and contagious disease. Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens from blood and/or bodily fluids. May be exposed to odorous or hazardous specimens. Subject to long and irregular hours. Must be able to handle crisis or emergency situations.
