Position Summary:
The Operating Room Inventory Tech (ORIT) provides critical support to the Materials Management department in procurement activities and supply replenishment workflows to provide expertise in supply management for the Surgical Services Department. The ORIT duties focus on enhanced par level management and customer service of Perioperative Supplies. Duties also include the daily procurement, receiving, breakdown, distribution and stocking of specialty supplies used.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma required.
- Associate degree in Surgical Technology preferred.
Experience
- Three (3) years of clinical Operating Room experience required.
- Experience working as a Surgical Technician in a hospital desired.
- Previous materials management experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
- Certified Surgical Technologist preferred.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Inventory Management and Tracking:
- Maintaining accurate records: Responsible for keeping detailed records of all items in stock, including their quantities, locations, and any changes (such as restocking or depletion).
- Regular stock checks: Perform routine physical counts of inventory to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
- Updating databases or inventory management systems: Shares input and data related to inventory movements, adjustments, and stock levels.
- Receiving and Storing Inventory:
- Receiving shipments: Receive incoming shipments from warehouse, verify their contents, and inspect for damage.
- Organizing and storing items: Arranges inventory in designated storage areas, ensuring proper labeling and organization.
- Rotating stock: Follows the “first in, first out” (FIFO) principle to prevent items from becoming obsolete or expiring.
- Distribution and Fulfillment:
- Picking and packing: Retrieves items from warehouse based on orders or requests.
- Coordinating with other departments: Works closely with purchasing and logistics teams to fulfill orders efficiently.
- Inventory Analysis and Reporting:
- Identifying trends: Analyze inventory data to identify patterns, such as seasonal fluctuations or slow-moving items.
- Generating reports: Reports on inventory levels, stock turnover, and any discrepancies.
- Suggesting improvements: Recommends and confirms with department staff leads adjustments to inventory levels or processes to optimize efficiency.
- Departmental projects: Assist in implementation of new products and other projects as needed.
- Inventory Control and Security:
- Loss prevention: Monitors for theft, damage, or unauthorized access to inventory.
- Implementing security measures: Ensures that inventory storage areas are secure and follow safety protocols.
- Managing inventory efficiently is crucial. Must understand inventory levels, reorder points, and stock rotation.
- Maintains accurate records, conducts cycle counts, and prevents stockouts or overstock situations.
- Collaborates with coworkers, supervisors, and other departments to maintain smooth operations.
- Provides positive experiences to customers through effective communication, understanding, and problem-solving.
- Inventory Technicians handle incoming restock shipments.
- Verifiescontents, inspect for damage, and ensure timely movement of materials from delivery to department to shelf availability.
- Contributes to overall department productivity goals.
- Maintains open communication with customers, responds quickly to issues, and troubleshoot problems.
- Provide exemplary customer service in all interactions.
- Work effectively and collaboratively with nursing colleagues, physicians, department heads, and members of executive leadership.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Explorer.
- Effectively utilize strong organizational skills.
- Consistently display effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient understanding and use of technology/PC skills is required.
- Regularly exercise independent judgment.
