Assists in transferring / positioning patients under direct supervision; Holds limbs for surgical prep under direct supervision of the RN; Assists with the preparation of preoperative site and patient draping.
Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of surgery suites, sterile rooms and ancillary rooms, as well as, assisting with room turnover. Demonstrates understanding and indications of cleaning solutions and required contact time.
Obtains necessary equipment and positioning supplies needed for cases and ensures all scheduled cases have complete case carts. Ensures age specific supplies and equipment are available.
Checks, cleans and restocks surgical suites, sterile rooms and ancillary rooms. Returns equipment and supplies to appropriate location.
Maintains communication with assigned rooms, clinical coordinators, and control desk charge nurse.
Performs activities required during the operation (e.g. handling of instruments, sponges, sutures, catheters, drains, dressing, etc.) under direct supervision. Observes for and corrects breaks in aseptic technique. Assists the physician, within scope of practice, during procedures as necessary. Demonstrates aseptic technique while tying, snapping surgical gowns and movement in OR suite. Maintains aseptic technique while opening supplies
Tests operation efficiency of equipment prior to and after each case, reporting any problem to the Clinical Specialty Coordinator or circulating nurse.
Sprays instruments with solution to aid in breakdown of bioburden prior to returning instruments to Sterile Processing.
Performs sponge, instrument, and sharps counts per policy. Performs instrument inventory counts on closed cavity cases. Disposes of sharps appropriately.
Cross trains to the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) as needed.
Demonstrates the ability to operate autoclave and rapid readout. Document both in appropriate logs.
Handles laboratory specimens correctly.
Performs point of use cleaning on instruments and scopes. Terminally disinfects ultrasound probe.
Answers intercom pages promptly and courteously responds to needs.
Makes appropriate decisions utilizing evidence-based practice and demonstrates critical thinking skills.
Responsible for on-call coverage.
Minimum Education, Experience, Training, and Licensures Required:
Associates or Vocational degree from an accredited Surgical Technical program. BCLS required. CST certification by National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required. EXPERIENCE: One-year experience as a CST is preferred
