Our team is looking for an experienced Surgical Technician to join our Operating Room in our Main Hospital at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange. This is a part time, 8-hour day shift position for a total of 40 biweekly hours.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
- Under supervision of the Surgeon, facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures.
- Ensure that the operating room environment is safe, the equipment functions properly, and the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.
- Consistently demonstrate behaviors that model the SJHS core values and the hospital’s mission statement.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with all members of the heath care team and other personal in both providing and obtaining information.
Qualifications and Skills needed for this role:
Required qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers.
- Obtain at least 6 CEUs (Continuing Education Units) per year.
- Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with patients, patients' families, and ancillary departments.
- Flexibility to adapt to new and changing situations.
- Expertise in theory and application of sterile and aseptic techniques.
- Knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies.
- Knowledge of Operating Room equipment/instrumentation.
- Ability to operate business machines and handle heavy equipment (push/pull).
- Ability to speak and write in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least one (1) year of Operating Room experience.
About the department you will serve:
The Operating Room at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange is an inpatient surgery unit consisting of 17 operating rooms and 90 staff members. We are an interactive, flexible and supportive team and a Center of Excellence for Orthopedic, Spine, and Bariatric surgery procedures. The unit utilizes state of the art technology and equipment and has consistently high HCAPS scores. Our priority is always patient experience and patient care. Surgical Technicians are an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients.
