Compensation:
- Minimum Rate Per Hour: $24.55
- Maximum Rate Per Hour: $35.54
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Surgical Technologist to join our Operating Room (OR) team for night shifts. The ideal candidate must live within 30 minutes of the facility. In this role, you will work closely with surgeons and the surgical team to ensure that all surgical procedures are performed with the highest level of safety and efficiency. You will be responsible for preparing the operating room, managing surgical instruments, and providing critical support during surgical procedures.
Essential Functions of the Role:
- Surgical Preparation: Discuss special needs with the surgeon prior to surgery and scrub in promptly to prepare instruments.
- Operative Site Preparation: Aseptically clean and prepare the operative site, ensuring proper patient clipping as needed.
- Instrument Management: Organize and maintain the instrument table to prevent damage and ensure accurate counts.
- Room Setup: Arrange the operating room according to the surgical schedule, selecting and opening only the necessary supplies.
- Equipment Functionality: Ensure that all surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies function properly during procedures.
- Surgical Counts: Perform accurate counts of sponges, sharps, instruments, and miscellaneous items as per established protocols.
- Support Surgical Team: Anticipate the needs of the surgical team, pass supplies, assist with patient draping and positioning, and handle specimens according to protocol.
- Post-Procedure: Assist with surgical dressings, disassemble instrumentation, prepare items for decontamination, and clean the operating room.
- Infection Control: Follow infection control policies, AORN guidelines, and OSHA standards to ensure a safe environment.
- Inventory Maintenance: Manage inventory of sterilized surgical equipment, document equipment use, and order necessary supplies.
Key Success Factors:
- Infection Control Knowledge: Understanding of infection prevention and regulatory sterilization standards.
- Sterile Technique Proficiency: Knowledge of sterile and aseptic techniques.
- Anatomy and Procedure Knowledge: Familiarity with human anatomy, surgical procedures, and associated tools and technologies.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with surgical and sterile processing team members.
- Exposure Management: Ability to manage occasional exposure to chemical and radiation hazards.
Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate of an Accredited Surgical Technologist Program.
- Experience: Less than 1 year of experience required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire or transfer.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from NBSTSA or NCCT OR completion of formal training in surgical technology from the military/public health service OR employed in a surgical technologist role in a healthcare facility before September 1, 2009.
