About the Job
Position Summary
As a Survey CAD Technician, you'll transform survey data into high-quality construction plans and layouts. You will use AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation to produce boundary, topographical, ALTA, and As-built surveys, and assist in mapping existing utilities from various records, among other tasks. This role requires someone with strong problem-solving abilities, mathematical skills, and experience handling survey data efficiently and accurately.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and detail construction plans, processing raw information from designers.
- Use Civil 3D for creating and editing digital terrain models, surfaces, and alignments.
- Review plans for accuracy, adhering to CAD standards and guidelines.
- Perform mathematical calculations for various engineering needs (e.g., pipe slopes, areas, volumes).
- Import survey data and manage point groups in Civil 3D.
- Generate stake-out coordinates and plot data for field crews.
- Produce utility layouts, site plans, and profiles with minimal supervision.
- Interpret utility mapping from scans, PDFs, and GIS data.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience: At least 1 year of professional full-time CAD experience in a similar industry. Positions are classified by experience level (I, II, or III).
- Software Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2015, with knowledge of MicroStation V8 and GeoPAK preferred.
- Education: A high school diploma is required; an Associate's degree in a related field is a plus.
- Field Knowledge: Minimum of 40 hours of field experience preferred.
- Technical Skills: Understanding of the metric system with the ability to convert between metric and English units and proficiency in basic math calculations.
Work Environment
- Primarily office-based with moderate noise levels.
- Occasional fieldwork may be required.
- Physical requirements include sitting, using hands for tasks, and occasional standing, walking, or kneeling.
