. I. Job Summary
Manages the day-to-day operations of the compost facility and aggregate recycling facility located at the Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site (DADS). The compost facility recently underwent a significant expansion and is anticipated to grow throughput from approximately 10, 000 tons per year to 100,000 tons per year over the next few years. The aggregate recycling facility is secondary and processes concrete and asphalt for beneficial re-use.
This role will be responsible for overseeing all sustainability initiatives at DADS including tours of the facility, community outreach and interaction, and new projects as we look to improve waste diversion practices and efficiencies.
This role will be responsible for maintaining performance and productivity metrics, cost management processes and P&L. Operators and laborers will report directly to this role.
Role reports to DADS Senior District Manager.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Function
Manages the day-to-day compost and aggregate recycling operations and provides daily support to operators and laborers in ensuring safety, service, and savings.
Executes necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards and regulations.
Ensures thorough root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, following up with consistent coaching and retraining.
Oversees department personnel needs, including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance.
Manages termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
Formulates short-term and long-term goals and action plans in conjunction with the Senior District Manager and/or Area Manager and Director of Disposal Operations.
Participates in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, equipment maintenance, and labor and material costs.
Interacts with local city, municipal, and county agencies to ensure customer satisfaction, improve efficiency, renew contracts, and negotiate new contracts; establishes WM as a good corporate citizen and valued resource.
This role will be responsible for providing facility tours and accommodating and coordinating community and regulatory activities in these areas.
III. Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.
A. Education and Experience
Education: Associate's Degree, High School Diploma or GED and 2 years of relevant work experience.
Experience: 2 years in a role with supervisory and/or P&L responsibility (in addition to
education requirement).
B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
Must be able to maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record throughout the duration of employment in this position
C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
Experience in a position involving at least 2 of the following: operations, customer service, community relations, health and safety, financial and human resource function, experience as a supervisor or manager; experience implementing safety (OSHA) programs and equipment specifications, experience preparing and managing budgets, and experience resolving labor relations
issues required.
