Sustainability Project Funding Manager - Saint-Gobain

About the Job
This position supports Saint-Gobain’s sustainability and circular economy efforts by identifying, pursuing, and managing government funding opportunities. This role collaborates with team members across SGNA business units to assess funding needs for sustainability projects; monitors and identifies potential funding opportunities; uses technical expertise to develop project proposals appropriate for funding opportunities; writes grant proposals; assists in the implementation of government-funded sustainability and circular economy projects; and manages tracking and reporting for funding agreements involving significant amounts of funding (millions of dollars each) . As a key member of the ESG and Circular Economy team, this role contributes process engineering and grants expertise to all parts for the organization.
Planning, strategy, and stakeholder management.
+ Work closely with business unit sustainability and circular economy leads to identify research and capital project needs and corresponding funding needs.
+ Work with policy and advocacy lead to monitor trends in funding availability and provide input to funding agencies.
+ Develop and maintain relationships with funding agencies; participate in meetings and events to stay informed of upcoming opportunities.
+ Act as a liaison with relevant external consultants.
Research, monitoring, and tracking.
+ Research, monitor, and assess government funding programs, which may include grants, tax credits, and other incentives.
+ Evaluate prospective funding programs against sustainability and circular economy objectives and business unit needs. Communicate funding opportunities and their pre-requisites (if any) to relevant business units.
+ Develop an internal tracking and monitoring system for grants and incentives, including a pipeline of funding opportunities, a funding calendar, submission deadlines, agency contacts, and proposals submitted.
Project development and grant writing.
+ In coordination with business unit staff, design and develop proposals for sustainability and circular economy projects, including by identifying the process and equipment changes, capital improvements, and other resources needed to implement the projects.
+ Write compelling grant proposals, tax incentive applications, concept papers, and other communications to secure funding relationships.
+ Collaborate with communication, marketing, and HR teams to appropriately highlight the economic, employment, domestic competitiveness, and DEI value creation of project submissions.
+ Track and follow up on grant proposals.

+ Assist business unit process engineers in implementing government-funded projects, including by tracking deliverables, milestones and metrics.
+ Create and maintain standard procedures for grant management, including a process flow, reporting procedures, internal contacts, and roles and responsibilities for reporting tasks. Develop standard templates and instructions for completing common federal grant reporting forms.
+ Identify data required to be tracked and reported under the funding relationship; identify and resolve any data collection or confidentiality issues.
+ Work with finance, procurement, legal, and other groups to compile and submit reports required as part of the funding relationship.
+ Assist in obtaining and tracking information and deliverables from subcontractors working on the project.
+ Bachelor’s degree - Engineering, sustainability, or related field. Required.
+ 5 years grant writing, grant management, and/or grant program administration.
+ 3-5 years experience developing and implementing operational sustainability or circular economy initiatives in a manufacturing environment.-
+ Familiarity with manufacturing environments and common industrial process equipment.
+ Knowledge of circular economy, sustainable manufacturing and industrial decarbonization strategies.
+ Excellent writing skills, including the ability to write clearly and concisely about technical and financial topics.
+ Knowledge of grant writing strategies and principles and proven track record of successful grant proposals.
+ Familiarity with federal grant solicitation formats, portals, and websites.
+ Ability to coordinate and lead time-sensitive projects across a heavily matrixed organization.
+ Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain positive working relationships with funding agencies and internal stakeholders.
+ Experience successfully managing federal grants, preferably for large installation projects, including tracking deliverables and budgets and submitting required reports.
+ Experience with and knowledge of the U.S. Department of Energy, including its major funding programs and grant procedures.
+ Experience with and knowledge of the Department of Treasury and processes for obtaining tax credits.
