About The Sustainable & Healthy Buildings Analyst Position
Brightworks Sustainability is seeking a Sustainable & Healthy Buildings Analyst in our Oakland, New York, Los Angeles, or Portland, OR (headquarters) office.
This role is responsible for collaborating with team members in Brightworks’ largest practice area, our Sustainable & Healthy Buildings (SHB) group. The SHB practice focuses on sustainability for new construction and renovation projects seeking certification through a third-party standard including LEED BD+C, WELL, Fitwel, SITES, Envision, CALGreen, and more. The analyst completes and manages tasks as assigned by team members to deliver green building certification and sustainability program management work to clients within scope, on-budget, on-schedule, and in the Brightworks way.
The analyst works closely with team members to develop expertise in technical content, project delivery process, and consulting. They contribute to the firm’s growth by developing client deliverables, creating tools, and sharing insights through project work and practice development meetings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES FOR THIS ROLE
- Prepare, maintain, and submit green building certification documentation. Analyze and interpret data as needed. Identify trends and opportunities to streamline documentation efforts.
- Lead regular LEED/Contractor check-in calls and portions of design-phase calls.
- Complete material and submittal reviews for alignment with project sustainability goals.
- Conduct project drawing and specifications reviews to confirm the inclusion of identified sustainability strategies.
- Complete calculations to demonstrate project performance in areas such as water use reduction and construction waste diversion.
- Peer review deliverables including memos, reports, certification submissions and provide feedback on suggested revisions.
- Support training of junior staff as needed. Provide peer-to-peer training in areas of expertise.
- Track meeting minutes and ongoing documentation by others to meet scheduled milestones and deadlines for submittal for projects with greater complexity.
- Stay informed of 3rd party Rating System updates, addendum and new versions through research, attendance at webinars and collaborating with industry professionals.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of green building and sustainability certification programs, primarily LEED BD+C and ID+C.
- Knowledge and competency using project delivery software (Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, LEED Online, etc.)
- Knowledge and competency reading drawings and specifications, product documentation (SDS, product certifications).
Education & Experience?
- Two years of experience in a similar role
- A bachelor’s degree in an applicable area of study (engineering, architecture, construction management, sustainability, environmental science, etc.).
- Any combination of education, professional, volunteer and lived experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the classification duties and responsibilities.
Job Details:

Brightworks offers hybrid work schedules. A minimum of two days per week in the office is required.

Compensation The hourly rate range for this position in Oakland or New York is $39.66 - $46.87.
The starting pay rate offered varies depending on location (hourly rates in Los Angeles and Portland are lower than Oakland and New York), external market value, internal pay equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
Starting rate offers will typically be made in the bottom half of the listed range.
