Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is looking for a motivated System Analyst that has a desire to expand their career by leading IT initiatives as part of the Applications and Data Services - Mission Application Service (ADS-MAS) Group. Our team is focused on providing high-quality, reliable, secure, and cost-effective software and applications that meet business and operational needs in support of the LANL mission.
This role will provide guidance on Software Quality requirements for applications supported by the Environmental Protection and Compliance (EPC) Scrum team. This role will require close collaboration with Product Owners and Subject-Matter Experts to create user stories and prioritize the product backlog for the EPC Scrum team developers. Additionally, this role will work closely with software developers and engage with business customers, end-users, and other I&T professionals.
This position will be filled at either the System Analyst 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
System Analyst 2 ($83,900 - $136,600)
As a System Analyst 2 reporting to the ADS-MAS Group Leader, you will analyze complex business problems and provide technical expertise to identify, evaluate, and create cost-effective systems and procedures that meet user requirements. Other key responsibilities include planning and executing unit, integration, and acceptance testing, as well as creating specifications to align systems with business needs. You will design the details of automated systems and may consult with users about these systems.
You will be expected to use your comprehensive understanding of specialized IT to creatively resolve a variety of complex issues. You will also be expected to contribute to project fulfillment and organizational objectives while working under limited supervision, while selecting appropriate methods and techniques for problem-solving.
System Analyst 3 ($101,700 - $168,200)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, as a System Analyst 3, you will use your experience to contribute to the resolution of complex problems by conducting in-depth evaluations of variable factors. You will frequently contribute to the development and/or implementation of new technical standards and methods. You will be expected to work with minimal direction, and at times, you may be asked to coordinate the activities of other personnel. You will have significant latitude in determining assignment objectives and the methods needing to achieve them.

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, post graduate course work may be expected.

Work Location: The work location for this position has the potential for remote work. Remote work is defined as working offsite that is greater than 2 hours of the Laboratory location. Reporting onsite may be periodically necessary. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Experience developing system requirements, specifications, and functional interfaces between system software components and system-level design.
- Strong understanding of software design, maintenance, verification, and validation practices.
- Experience with relational databases (Oracle, MS SQL Server, Maria DB).
- Experience analyzing software applications, interfaces, and data.
- Basic knowledge of SQL.
- Ability to identify problems and assess solutions.
- Experience with how IT processes and computer components such as networks, software and hardware interact to accomplish business objectives.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with the ability to communicate and collaborate cross functionally within and outside of the group.
- Effective communication skills and ability to translate technical information to layperson's terms and present them to diverse audiences.
- Experience working with application owners, subject matter experts, and developers to extract details and establish a priority for items on the team's backlog.
Additional Job Requirements for Level 3:
- Expert level analytical skills to assess complex business requirements on complex systems and identify technology opportunities.
- Experience with software version control (such as Git or GitLab).
- Expert level software lifecycle knowledge including requirements, design, development, and testing with appropriate documentation.
- Demonstrated experience reading and writing SQL queries.
- Demonstrated ability analyzing complex situations or data and developing creative resolutions.
- Advanced knowledge of software validation processes and testing, including automated testing.
- Ability to mentor other team members.

- Experience working with Agile (Scrum) methodologies and working with collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence.
- Experience creating automated tests using Eggplant, Cypress, or Selenium.
- Experience with Oracle APEX 19.x or later.
