ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide day-to-day supervision and direction to Distribution Design Supervisor.
- Employee performance should include a high level of productivity, loyalty, professionalism, teamwork, compliance with applicable policies, procedures and regulations, individual development, and the successful completion of all assigned responsibilities.
- Provide ongoing feedback to the individual employees of direct report regarding his/her performance; reinforce performance which should be retained and give direction for the performance which should be changed/corrected. Prepare and conduct department personnel annual performance reviews to include merit increase consideration. Working with the Human Resource Department, recommend disciplinary action when necessary, following F.E.C. procedures.
- Provide training for new and existing employees of direct report ensuring each employee is trained thoroughly and is given every opportunity to be successful in his/her position.
- Coordinating with the Human Resource Department for open direct report positions, advertise, screen, interview and recommend a qualified applicant for hiring. Ensure selected applicant meets the minimum requirements for the open position.
- Approve, inspect and sign-off on the compliance of engineering and construction under his/her P.E. license.
- Complete studies and planning for the design of transmission and distribution line system improvement projects. Studies to include load forecasting, voltage regulation, system capacity, load monitoring and other applicable items to make sound engineering decisions.
- Assist in annual budget preparation, identifying system improvement projects with budgetary costs on a priority basis to be constructed in the following budget year.
- Prepare complete job packages for yearly system improvements projects, highway relocates and large commercial developments. Packages to include design documentation, staking sheets, material lists, etc. Prepare purchasing specifications for non-standard or unusual material items.
- Maintain open communication with all departments regarding various design projects including project scope, project schedule, and delivery of long lead items and changes to job after release. Provide oversight and technical support to warehouse and operations on projects after release.
- Oversee project work completed by consultants. Ensure jobs are completed to FEC specifications and that complete job packages are provided under the agreed contract price.
- Working with Engineering and Operations, investigate, develop, and maintain F.E.C. construction and material standards.
- Assist in completion of fault sectionalizing study. Provide pertinent information as required from system improvement projects to keep study updated.
- Provide assistance to requesting members with technical problems, including complaints regarding power quality. Refer members to an outside source when appropriate.
- Maintain knowledge and keep up-to-date with local, state and federal safety codes; RUS construction standards; F.E.C safety manual; F.E.C. objectives and applicable policies; and, F.E.C. practical construction methods.
- Maintain ongoing, effective communication with direct supervisor regarding questions, technical problems, concerns, and status of the current project.
- On a rotating basis, will be required to serve in an “on call” roll to direct after hours dispatch and line personnel regarding major outages or abnormal system behaviors.
- Professionally represents the Cooperative at assigned committees and meetings.
- Maintains assigned F.E.C. vehicles to include: gas, washing, a clean and orderly interior, etc.
- When traveling throughout F.E.C. territory, is aware of the condition of the system. When a problem or hazard is noticed, accurately complete a service order and/or communicate with the appropriate F.E.C. department.
- Always assist members/vendors/employees and the general public in a courteous and professional manner ensuring their continued satisfaction with FEC. Work in harmony and show respect to all fellow employees in order to promote an effective and pleasant working environment.
- In pursuit of zero workplace incidents, promotes and maintains a positive safety culture while adhering to all applicable policies outlined in the Safety Manual. Reports all incidents and potential safety hazards in a timely manner to supervisor or Safety Coordinator.
- Become familiar with and keep current with F.E.C. objectives and applicable policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management applying the same skill and enthusiasm as with regularly assigned responsibilities.
Education: Bachelors Degree in Engineering.
Job Related Experience: 5 to 10 years experience in a related engineering position whereexpertise and judgment were exercised.
Supervision: Experience Supervising Preferred.
Computer Skills: Proficient on computer, including Microsoft Office 365.
Certificates & Licenses: PE license required.
Other Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age.
- Exhibit excellent member relations and customer service skills.
- Able to work 40 hours per week with additional time as needed.
- Valid Montana Driver's License and be insurable to drive FEC vehicles.
- Present a professional appearance at all times.
- Able to establish and maintain working relationships with a variety of individuals, some of whom have opposing points of view.
- Assume responsibility without direct supervision, display initiative and exercise good judgment.
- Legible handwriting.
- Be a team player with effective verbal and written skills.
- Able to travel occasionally out-of-area and/or overnight.
- Operate snowmobile or snowmachine.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Will be working mostly indoors but will occasionally be required to participate in activities outdoors in all types of weather and terrain.
