Responsibilities
The Department of Interior (DOI) CHS III program will be leading the way for Cloud Hosting and Applications Modernization across DOI and its subordinate bureaus. CHS III will facilitate migration of legacy on-premises applications to a modern, secure and scalable multi-cloud platform. From sensors in active volcanic regions to earthquake detection data, CHS III will be DOI's central cloud processing and data solution.
This individual will: provide technical expertise on cloud cluster computing techniques and technologies and expert advice to the program, and related cloud computing architectures. Optimize memory management identifying the best ways to develop distributed Desktop as a Service Solutions. Research, evaluate, and deploy advanced cloud computing systems and large data analytics for clients in research and production areas. Support a range of clients from front line analysts to researchers and senior leadership. Work as a key contributor on a collaborative, fast-growing, and highly skilled software development team. Knowledge of a variety of advanced computer science and mathematical concepts, practices, and procedures.
The Desktop as a Service Administrator will support customers across DOI USGS in provisioning and supporting DaaS services in AWS. They will work with installing and training new customers with our DaaS offering, including hands-on walkthrough and installation. They will also decommission workspaces as users spin down. The successful candidate is familiar with imaging, versioning and administering VDI’s, including creation of separate profiles in AWS Workspaces. Extensive work with Windows and Linux administration. The candidate will work with federated authentication services. The candidate will be expected to hands-on troubleshoot and resolve even the most challenging DaaS tickets.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- 8 years with BS/BA; 6 years with MS/MA, 3 years with PhD
- Must be a US Citizen
- Candidate must have an Active Public Trust or the ability to obtain one is required
- Must have at least one of the following certifications or able to attain within 90 Days of Hire:
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate
- AWS SysOps Administrator - Associate
Preferred Qualifications
- 10 years with BS/BA; 8 years with MS/MA, 5 years with PhD
- Preferred experience with:
- AWS Workspaces
- License administration and requirements
- Windows Server
- Windows 10
- Linux
- Extensive helpdesk support experience, including excellent customer service.
