About the Role:
Aquila is seeking a Systems Administrator to join our team in supporting one of the country’s premier defense research organizations. The Systems Administrators will assist with development of new technologies that enable worldwide networked operations for the organization.
There are a few requirements for the position:
- Must be a U.S Citizen (Green Cards / Visas do not qualify)
- Willingness to undergo a comprehensive background investigation and maintain a personal security clearance. (Aquila would sponsor you for the security clearance.)
What You'll Do:
Maintains operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination of infrastructure and cloud responsibilities. Develops and designs core operating system builds. Responsible for coding, virtualization, and automation of systems. Sets up administrator and service accounts, maintains an active directory of users and system documentation, tunes system performance, installs system-wide software, and allocates mass storage space. Assesses and resolves user access problems related to security controls to minimize business impact and risk exposure. Identifies and evaluates vendor products and establishes vendor monitoring and tracking processes. Performs capacity planning and monitors/tunes systems. Recommends appropriate platforms for purchase, coordinates installation, and provides backup recovery. Serves as a point of escalation for major incidents that are unresolved at the helpdesk level. Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources. May draft general IT communications to end-users including notifications of outages/downtimes.
Responsibilities:
- Processing mobile device procurement orders and services requested via the ServiceNow ticketing platform.
- Updating records of employees or mobile lines of service in associated databases.
- Completing the required paperwork to ship material goods to remote Organizations staff or new hire candidates.
- Assisting in the porting of mobile lines of service between service carriers.
- Analyzing and resolving mobile device financial error reports.
- Creating, analyzing, and resolving mobile device compliance reports.
- Developing well-written instructional knowledge base articles.
- Generating ad hoc reports, conducting data analysis, and resolving issues.
- Completing minor projects.
- Clearly, accurately, and frequently communicating with customers of all education levels regarding requests.
Required Skills:
• Looking for a Linux Systems Administrator with approximately 5 years of Linux administration experience
• Domains: IT Infrastructure, Networking, system configuration management, system troubleshooting.
• Responsible for management, administration, and support of all infrastructure in Group.
• Support additional technologies as they are adopted by the organization.
• Responsible for vulnerability remediation on secure and unclassified organization systems. Addressing Cat 1, 2, 3 issues in a timely manner
• Recognizing and troubleshooting issues with developer’s machines as they occur across a variety of Operating Systems. Windows, Linux, etc.
• Perform all related duties as assigned.
Technical Skills:
• Operating Systems: RedHat Enterprise Linux, VMware
• Hardware: Dell
• Software/applications: RedHat Satellite, McAfee; Enterprise Central Logging/Splunk, LDAP, VMware vCenter/ESXI/vSAN, Gitlab.
• Networking applications and protocols: TCP/IP, DNS, NTP, SSH, FTP and HTTP/S.
• Programming Languages: Ansible, Shell Scripting, PowerShell or Bash.
• Skilled at centralized authentication (SSSD, IDM, Active Directory) and centralized sudo administration via IDM
• Responsible for configuring and maintaining (physical and virtual) servers and researcher workstations
• Install, update, and troubleshoot systems/servers.
• Develop and document systems administration standard operating procedures.
• Plan, execute, and verify data redundancy and system recovery procedures.
• Conduct periodic system maintenance including cleaning (both physically and electronically), disk checks, routine reboots, data dumps, and testing.
• Provide ongoing optimization and problem-solving support
Preferred Skills/Certifications:
• Experience managing classified IT systems, STIGs, SCAPS, RMF. This experience is a bonus
• Certification(s) in one or more of the following disciplines: Red Hat, VMWare, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP); CompTIA Security+; Linux Professional Institute Certification. Candidate will be required to obtain a CompTIA Security+ certification within 3-6 months of starting if they do not have one when assignment begins.
• Experience managing system/server resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.
• Mac experience
• Experience with virtual machines. (e.g., VMWare vSphere, Citrix XenDesktop/Server, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, etc.).
• Network administration experience is also desirable which includes managing data center and small network configurations: switches, routers, firewalls, modern software management and monitoring tools, some knowledge of automation technique.
• Experience maintaining directory services. (e.g., Microsoft Active Directory, LDAP, etc.).
Must Have:
- 5 years Install, update, and troubleshoot systems/servers
- 5 years Linux server/workstation administration
- 5 years Understanding of bash and related scripting tools (shell and/or ansible)
- 5 years Redhat Enterprise Linux 7 & 8
- 5 years Redhat Linux Systems Administration
- 5 years Technologies including DNS, DHCP, Proxy and Load Balancing
- 5 years VM Ware ESXi and Associated Management Systems
Nice to Have:
- CompTIA Security+ Certification
- Currently holds a Secret Clearance (OR a higher clearance)
- STIGs/SCAP
- Macintosh and iOS platform(s)
- MS Active Directory, LDAP
- Real Time Linux Kernels, Tuning and Performance Analysis
- Windows OS
Applicable Education and Professional Accreditation:
- Degree in one of the following disciplines: Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, or a related technical discipline
- Certification(s) in one or more of the following disciplines: Solaris administration, Red Hat, VMWare, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP); CompTIA Security+; Linux Professional Institute Certification
- Any prior military experience is a plus. They will modify the years of experience or the required Bachelor's Degree if someone has the majority of the technical skills and a military background.
