Job Summary:
The Learning Systems Administrator oversees the day-to-day support and operation of academic technologies, including the LMS (Learning Management System), EZproxy, and Turnitin. They serve as the primary contact to resolve Tier 1 and Tier 2 issues encountered by faculty, staff, and students, working with vendor support when necessary.
Essential Job Functions / Responsibilities
LMS

Work with the Office of the Registrar and the Software Developer to manage and troubleshoot integration of the LMS with the school’s SIS (Student Information System)

Work with the Software Developer and the Senior Associate Registrar to resolve term-related issues (missing courses, missing enrollments, etc.)

Work with institutional stakeholders to integrate new technologies with the LMS, providing technical assistance and troubleshooting help as needed
-
Work with instructors and teaching assistants to implement and maintain non-English courses in the LMS (for example: German, Korean, Chinese, and Spanish)
-
Add special users to the LMS, including (but not limited to) Teaching Assistants and Visiting Scholars
-
Create and maintain course shells/enrollments that are outside the standard terms (such as course shells for organizations and departments)

Gather best practices and insights from fellow LMS administrators via listservs and community sites
-
Archive and delete courses from the LMS as needed to maintain unused space requirements

Post institutional news and announcements in the LMS per request

Generate custom reports using LMS data (such as data from the Canvas Data Portal)

Maintain and utilize the LMS test environment (with the goal of assessing the impact of new technologies on campus operations)

Serve as an escalation contact for support issues
EZproxy
-
Work with the Digital Resources Librarian to maintain faculty, staff, and student access to online subscription databases (via EZproxy)

Work with the Digital Resources Librarian to configure and maintain subscription database stanzas for EZproxy, working with database vendors as necessary

Serve as an escalation contact for support issues
Turnitin
-
Administrate the school’s Turnitin account via the online dashboard

Provide special Turnitin assistance to faculty (Turnitin course duration limits, roster synchronization, etc.)

Serve as an escalation contact for support issues
Other
-
Participate in the development and implementation of academic technology policies and standards
-
Perform upgrades and apply patches as needed to academic technology applications (EZproxy, Turnitin, etc.)

Administrate and troubleshoot academic servers (including the Microsoft Windows servers that host academic technologies)

Renew annual security certificates on LMS, EZproxy, and other relevant servers
-
Create and maintain documentation as needed for faculty, staff, and students
-
Provide one-on-one training for faculty, staff, and student on the use of academic tools
-
Regularly check Microsoft Server, LMS, and SIS Integration logs for operational issues
-
Migrate technical processes from legacy systems to newer technology alternatives
-
Remain conversant with current and emerging academic technologies (through courses, literature, webinars, associations, and conferences)

As a member of Campus Technology, may be tasked with other job responsibilities and projects as needed

Skills / Requirements

Certifications related to the LMS and other academic technologies

Proficiency with cURL

Proficiency with HTML and CSS

Ability to use Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL)

Ability to write technical documentation and keep it up-to-date

Ability to explain technical concepts in non-technical terms

Basic understanding of instructional design principles, practices, and/or theories

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Highly relational with a passion for customer service

Strong organizational skills
Qualifications / Education:
-
Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, college degree preferred
-
Extensive experience with change management – especially in an Information Technology environment
-
Administration and troubleshooting of Windows servers (includes updating servers; troubleshooting; replacing security certs)
-
Administration and troubleshooting of LMS environments (including integration with an institution’s SIS; adding LTI applications)
-
Management of an institution-wide Turnitin account (including making changes to the online dashboard; escalating issues with instructor and student accounts)
-
Administration of an EZproxy server (including server upgrades; adding and modifying subscription stanzas)
-
Experience with Microsoft SQL (Structured Query Language)

Successful completion of background check, MVR, and credit check may be required
