General Summary
The Systems Engineer will be responsible for providing cross functional technical support and leadership, across a number of disciplines within IT. The Systems engineer plays an active role in provisioning, installing, configuring, operating, and maintaining system software, hardware, and corresponding infrastructure (network, storage, etc.). This individual ensures that hardware, operating systems, applications, and related documentation and procedures adhere to industry best practices.
An ability to work closely with colleagues of different technical and business backgrounds will be a key part of the role and will require excellent oral and written communication skills. We seek a high level of energy towards providing best-in-class service across the organization, with a focus on continual improvement – for oneself, as well as for the department as a whole.
This position will require flexible hours and occasional regional travel, to include after-hours on-call rotation, remote office/branch/datacenter support, and other scenarios as required by job duties and ongoing organizational projects.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
End User Support:
- Work alongside the team to provide helpdesk coverage during an early, mid, or late shift as needed, taking on incidents and requests through various channels (email, phone, chat, and web-portal).
- Manage user requests for assistance via Atlassian service desk platform, prioritizing and carrying issues to resolution.
- Provides customer-centric service and support, reflected in survey data feedback from case contacts. Takes ownership of any detractors and works to find solutions to prevent or mitigate future concerns.
- Seeks to resolve most support requests during first contact with user and works with the Manager of Service Delivery to improve process/procedure where required.
- Maintain vendor repair service accounts and relationships and help curate an inventory of spare parts where appropriate.
- Updates JIRA worklogs and associated documentation by the end of each workday to ensure accurate time tracking and documentation, feeding into project management and change management areas of the business.
- Participates in the maintenance and formulation of documentation for all technologies.
- Participates in daily, weekly, and quarterly reviews as required.
Systems Administration:
- Maintain corporate servers, applications, firewalls, LAN, WAN, and other associated security components.
- Coordinates with internal resources and external vendors to lead and complete installation and configuration of new servers, applications, etc.
- Troubleshoot problems with hardware or software, including (but not limited to): Windows 10, VMware VDI, Dell Networking, NSX, MS Exchange E-mail, Microsoft Teams, Office 365, line of business applications (Symitar, Synergy, etc.), and any other supporting equipment or platforms; making repairs and corrections where required.
- Performs system patching and maintenance, leveraging and developing knowledgebase information as appropriate.
- Leverages company systems (i.e., StatusPage) to communicate all activities (maintenance, incidents, etc.) across the organization.
- Provide administration over all end user accounts and access, including new user setup, phone numbers, email accounts, and WorkspaceONE SSO assignments. Ensures that appropriate policies are in place with regards to Mobile Device Management (MDM), to support all possible end-user workplace environments.
- Handle long-term development for Horizon Virtual Desktop environment, including AppVolume-based packaged applications, performance monitoring, regressive testing, and troubleshooting.
Networking and Security Administration:
- Troubleshoot infrastructure systems (both physical and software-defined) to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational difficulties.
- Develop, implement, and monitor components from various alerting platforms (ThousandEyes, vRealize Suite, Panorama, etc.) to detect and respond to activities within the environment.
- Routine review and testing of distributed security components, such as firewalling, IDS/IPS, A/V, and others, to ensure the highest possible standard of practice within the environment.
- Assist in maintaining appropriate documentation standards, both procedural and topographical, ensuring departmental awareness of all platforms and their connectivity.

Required Experience:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or equivalent experience in an IT role. Ability to obtain two of the following certifications in 1 year:
Palo Alto Certified Network Security Administrator
VMWare Certified Professional (multiple tracks available)
Microsoft Certified Solutions Engineer
Cisco Certified Network Associate (or Dell equivalent)
Experience & Skills:
- Proficient with deploying and configuring Microsoft Server and Client operating systems.
- Proficient with administration of Hybrid Azure Active Directory environment.
- Experience with Microsoft 365 administration.
- Experience with administering Hybrid Exchange environment.
- Experience with deployment and management of Microsoft SQL Server.
- Experience with deployment and management NSX, ESXi and vCenter.
- Experience with VDI environments, including deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Experience administering stateful firewalls, i.e., Palo Alto, Cisco, Barracuda.
- Experience with scripting languages, e.g., PowerShell, BASH.
- Experience with deployment and management of Linux servers.
- Must understand and be able to troubleshoot networking problems at the various layers.
- Candidate must have hands-on experience with physical server installation and configuration.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
- Must be able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Must be able to clearly document work.
- Must be able to work as part of a team to accomplish strategic objectives.
