GENERAL FUNCTION:
The Systems Engineer - Corporate role centers on providing first- to second-level engineering support for our operations team and editorial staff. This position is crucial in maintaining and optimizing the corporate systems, storage solutions and databases. The Systems Engineer is responsible for ensuring these critical systems' stability, security and performance across multiple platforms, including Windows, Linux and Mac.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Technical Support: Provides first- and second-level technical support to the operations team and editorial staff, addressing issues related to software, hardware and network systems. Troubleshoots and resolves problems efficiently to minimize downtime.
- Systems Management: Manages corporate systems, including Windows, Linux and Mac platforms. Ensures systems are updated, secure and perform optimally. Monitors system performance and implements necessary upgrades and patches.
- Storage Solutions: Oversees and manages corporate storage systems, ensuring data integrity, security and availability. Implements and maintains backup and recovery solutions.
- Database Management: Supports and maintains corporate databases, ensuring their availability, security and performance. Performs routine database maintenance, including backups, monitoring and tuning.
- Collaboration and Communication: Works closely with other IT teams and departments to coordinate system upgrades, deployments and other technical projects. Communicates effectively with team members, stakeholders and end-users to provide updates and gather feedback.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintains accurate documentation of system configurations, procedures and troubleshooting steps. Generates reports on system performance, incidents and maintenance activities.
- Security Compliance: Implements and enforces security policies and procedures to protect corporate systems and data. Regularly reviews and updates security measures to comply with industry standards and best practices.
- Troubleshooting: Evaluates, prioritizes, solves and escalates all tickets to the appropriate Tier Support and/or correcting the assignment of tickets as required; enters updates and closes out tickets and change requests as required in a ticketing system.
- Scripting and Automation: Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) to automate tasks and streamline processes.
- Virtualization and Cloud Computing: Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure). Understanding of cloud architecture and services.
- Continuous Improvement: Stays up-to-date with the latest technologies and industry trends. Proactively identifies opportunities for system improvements and recommends solutions to enhance efficiency and performance.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports NRCS, video production, edit suite and similar.
- Troubleshoots and maintains technical equipment.
- Provides first- and second-level IT support for users in the newsroom.
- Takes ownership of assigned vendor issues until complete resolution.
- Manages assigned projects and timelines.
- Other duties as assigned.
BACKGROUND/SKILLS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
- Experience in systems engineering or a similar role, with a strong Windows, Linux and Mac systems background.
- Experience with Microsoft Office O365 is a plus.
- Proficiency in managing and supporting storage solutions and databases.
- Must be able to lift equipment weighing up to 50lbs and work effectively in cramped spaces.
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel and lift for extended periods.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with security best practices and compliance.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Technical certifications (MCSA/MCSE OR RHCE).
- ITIL Foundation desired.
- Minimum of three years broadcast media experience.
- Three to five years of experience in the IT domain and enterprise networking.
