Summary:
The Systems Engineer position will maintain, monitor, manage and support various server-related hardware and software firm-wide. The Systems Engineer brings expertise to IT projects such as maintenance of systems hardware (servers, desktops, and mobile devices), new application installations, server hardware upgrades and modifications, application upgrades and the appropriate cyber security.
Responsibilities:
The following are essential job duties and responsibilities of the Systems Engineer. This list is not exhaustive, and other duties will be assigned as necessary.
- Support, monitor, design, and implement system solutions, server hardware, and software upgrades to include but are not limited to VMWare, Azure, Windows Server OS, and Linux OS.
- Responsible for managing and maintaining all physical & virtual servers, storage, and Disaster Recovery (DR) based operations throughout the enterprise.
- Responsible for designing, managing, monitoring, and maintaining the stability and performance of the server environment including but not limited to Azure, Windows Server, VMWare, Microsoft Active Directory, M365, VMWare Horizon, and MDM.
- Replies to requests for technical assistance; identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves technical issues related to hardware, software, and networks.
- Provide technical support to clients onsite or via phone or email.
- Enterprise patch management.
- Cyber Security tools and best practice.
- Certificate/PKI management.
- Experience with cloud environments.
- Prepares and maintains documentation of network, server, and data center design, configuration, and procedures.
- Monitor all mission-critical systems daily for upkeep and performance.
- Work with 3rd party vendors to implement and upgrade to new technology solutions.
- Perform server administration tasks, including user/group administration, security permissions, group policies, print services, DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, patching/security updates, research various log warnings and errors, and resource monitoring, ensuring system architecture components work together seamlessly.
- Analyze and resolve server & server application-related issues and respond to user requests promptly. Work with IT staff to determine specific needs and implement technical solutions best.
- Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies.
- Maintain server configurations to maintain compliance with Firm Security policies.
- Maintain an inventory of all server-related software and hardware.
- Identify and recommend new technologies that will increase the overall efficiency of the Firm's systems.
- Evaluate new products and maintain awareness of industry updates.
- Provide support for various projects as needed and determined by IT management.
- Work with IT staff on any technology-related issues and provide emergency support on major systems or problems when necessary.
- Performs other technology-related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in a computer-related field along with 7 - 10 years of relevant work experience.
- VMWare and Microsoft certifications preferred.
- Working knowledge of networking technologies
- Implementation of High availability Windows servers
- Working knowledge of Windows Server technologies, including but not limited to Direct Access, IIS, and MS SQL
- Working knowledge of Security procedures and Threat Hunting
- Advanced knowledge of multiple operating systems and platforms, the internet, and other related technologies.
- Good communication skills and ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends to implement service-affecting changes.
Essential Physical/Mental Demands
- Ability to sit for an extended period.
- Ability to keyboard for an extended period.
- Handle material and supplies up to 50 lbs. of weight.
- Ability to deal with stress due to workload pressures.
