IBM i Systems Engineer
Summary:
Join our Systems Engineering team as an IBM i Systems Engineer, specializing in the IBM i family of products and solutions. In this critical role, you will manage and optimize the IBM iSeries (AS/400) infrastructure, ensuring seamless operations across our Plant and Warehouse environments. This position requires flexibility to work during non-production hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, for upgrades, installations, and system support as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee comprehensive administration of the IBM i environment, including security controls, TCP/IP, BRMS, job control, performance, capacity planning, system updates, and license management.
- Design, install, and maintain system configurations across the enterprise, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
- Troubleshoot and coordinate hardware support for the IBM i environment.
- Administer and troubleshoot Aldon and ARCAD change management software.
- Manage Logical Partition (LPAR) systems, utilizing virtualized I/O (VIO), Hardware Management Console (HMC), and associated technologies.
- Lead complex system upgrades and migration projects, ensuring minimal downtime and business continuity.
- Research, implement, and maintain system and platform security, addressing complex performance and technical issues, and adhering to well-documented change control procedures.
- Provide support to the user community for IBM i environment-related inquiries and issues.
- Develop scripting automation with high technical competence, preferably in CL, COBOL, RPG, C#, and/or Python.
- Manage medium to large-scale IBM i related projects across the enterprise.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Computer Information Systems, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in Systems Engineering/Administration or a related field.
- Advanced technical expertise in IBM i management, DB2 Management, OS upgrades, patch management, performance tuning, and System Replication / Disaster Recovery / High Availability.
- In-depth knowledge of OUTQ print management and BRMS backup and recovery processes.
- Strong experience in ITS infrastructure and troubleshooting, including networking, TCP/IP concepts, server hardware, etc.
- Proficient understanding of modern iSeries development tools and methodologies, including RDi, Git, and DevOps principles.
- Solid foundation in network and system security protocols and standards.
- Demonstrated initiative and technical innovation, with strong problem-solving, decision-making, and project management skills.
- Excellent organizational, time management, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to participate in after-hours escalations and/or system upgrades (including nights, weekends, and holidays) and 24/7 on-call as scheduled.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen, National, lawful permanent resident, or have authorization to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred:
- Understanding of DB2/SQL on IBM i, including data modeling and database security/integrity.
- Knowledge of IBM iSeries application development, particularly in ILE RPG, RPG Free Format, CLLE, SQL, RPGLE, and C#.
- Technical knowledge of cloud technologies and administration.
- Proficiency in other operating system software, hardware, and virtualization technologies.
- Familiarity with physical servers, storage arrays, storage protocols, backup, and restoration technologies.
- Experience with Oracle Financials software solutions.
- Multilingual abilities are a plus.
