About the Job
Under general direction, the position implements, supports, maintains, and evaluates the Authority’s technical systems assigned to the Information Technology Department. The environment includes network devices (wide-area network [WAN] and local-area network [LAN]), servers (physical and virtual), and desktop systems. The position may train or participate in work team assignments.
Essential Job Functions
- Manage and monitor all installed operating systems (multi-platform operating environment), infrastructure (physical and virtual), and corporate networks (LAN/WAN). Ensure systems are scalable, highly available, and secure.
- Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, including application software and system management tools.
- Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies.
- Maintain telecommunications systems, including voice, fax, and data.
- Implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, firewalls, routers, and switches.
- Create and manage user accounts, directories, files, and their associated permissions. Ensure access privileges on all Authority systems are based on Authority policy and users’ job responsibilities.
- Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the need for human intervention on routine tasks.
- Maintain documentation, including network diagrams, hardware and software configurations, hardware and software inventories, database flowcharts, and other related information.
- Participate in the design of information and operational support systems.
- Provide technical support, as needed, to the organization.
- Work with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
- Administer a variety of database systems.
- Install and maintain closed-circuit television (CCTV) system, including cameras, servers, storage devices, and the software used to administer the CCTV system.
- Oversee and assist in the day-to-day operations of the Authority’s systems, including end user support, server administration, database administration, and monitoring network devices and traffic.
- Assist in the creation and implementation of backup procedures for the Authority’s technical systems.
- Work within pre-identified project budgets and provide input for annual budgeting as well as general assistance in tracking expenditures.
- Assist in coordinating special IT-related projects.
- Provide on-site and on-call support, as scheduled and/or assigned.
- Responsible for OAA’s email system. This includes documentation, training, end user support and troubleshooting by reviewing email logs, records, and network configuration.
- Recommend and maintain new release information, patches, and hotfixes for network devices, operating systems, databases, and applications.
- Maintain anti-spam and antivirus environments.
- Review and refresh knowledge on topics and technologies relevant to the Authority’s IT environment by participating in continuing education, both credited and/or non-credited courses. Participate in organizations or groups focused on related IT fields that help to accomplish annual goals.
- Research technical manual and guides and respond to user questions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems, computer information systems, data communications, electrical engineering, or other related areas; combination of formal education and technical experience in lieu of a degree considered; possession of a network, server, or database certification preferred
- Working knowledge of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems based on Oracle and/or Microsoft products preferred
- Experience in the administration and management of data and server networks, including system configuration, setup, troubleshooting, planning, designing, documentation, and user support
- Working knowledge of LAN/WAN and how networks are leveraged for internet access, email systems, voice, and data traffic; ability to apply knowledge in day-to-day support efforts of these environments
- Working knowledge of server utilization (VMWare ESXI and vCenter)
- Working knowledge of database systems and daily operational requirements
- Four years’ experience in providing technical support for end users and clients
- Four years’ experience in installing and supporting server (physical and virtual) and desktop technologies
- Four years’ experience in administering user account management, group policy administration, and file system access administration
- Four years’ experience with application transport and infrastructure protocols
- Experience in traditional monitoring software packages and software utilities
- Proper records maintenance and storage for local and distributed environments
- Proficiency in communicating technical concepts in non-technical terms and clients and staff
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical data-processing manuals and related documents
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal communications, including preparing documentation and presentations for management and end users
- Ability to prioritize, organize, schedule, and coordinate a variety of requests, activities, and projects
- Ability to learn and adapt to new software packages and hardware
- Ability to differentiate between colors
- Ability to work efficiently as a team member as well as work independently
- Willingness to work additional hours to include on-call duty during the week and/or weekend, as required
