General Description:
The Technology Services team is responsible for ensuring that Richmond Public Schools (RPS) technology resources function efficiently and meet the needs of the RPS community. The Systems Engineer - Security is responsible for the implementation of security best practices and remediation of security vulnerabilities on the RPS network and server systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implements security software on the network and server systems
- Remediates security vulnerabilities on the network and server systems
- Configures and installs server systems equipment to meet server security best practices
- Provides 2nd and 3rd level support for system issues
- Works problem tickets assigned to team
- Conducts systems security assessments
- Provides maintenance and support for the network and server systems including virtual environments
- Assists Senior Systems Engineer with administration and maintenance of Microsoft Active Directory Environment
- Administration of content filtering system
- Assists the Cyber Security Analyst in the creation of system security and data integrity policies and procedures
- Performs routine audits of server systems and software to ensure organizational compliance with all procedures and policies
- Assists in disaster recovery planning
- Maintains appropriate written documentation for equipment configuration
- Coordinates with vendors for the installation of specified systems as requested by the Infrastructure Manager
- Reviews terms of service to ensure software and SaaS meet federal, state, and local requirements
- Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development by keeping current with the literature and new research findings
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience
- At least 5 years of experience in information security or related field
- At least 5 years of experience with computer network penetration testing and techniques
- At least 5 years of experience working with firewalls, proxies, antivirus, security software, and anti-malware
- At least 5 years working with security information and event management (SIEM) and using SIEM software, appliances, or managed services
- Ability to identify and mitigate server and network vulnerabilities and explain how to avoid them
- Knowledge of Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IDPS) and experience with network security appliances that monitor network and system activities and detect possible intrusions
- Experience in the installation, setup, and maintenance of servers
- Experience with VMware 6.x and above including administration of virtual server environments
- Demonstrated understanding of patch management with the ability to deploy patches in a timely manner while understanding the business impact
- Experience in installing security software and documenting security issues
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience with the setup and maintenance of Windows servers including 2016 and up
- Experience with Microsoft AD, DHCP, and DNS
