FINANCIAL OFFICER II ndash; FACILITIES
The primary accountabilities below are intended to describe the general content of and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The incumbent will serve as a liaison between Facilities Financial Management and operating departments in the Facilities Division. The incumbent will report to the Business Officer II. The incumbent will extract and use complex data from multiple sources and produce information that is meaningful to various departments of Facilities, as well as to the University. Budget management, project financial analysis and reporting, rate development, and implementation are major elements of the role. The incumbent will possess a business background and mindset, along with the ability to provide, report, and project the financial components of the systems and projects. Provides support and guidance to administrators and staff to meet/exceed designated financial goals. This is a highly analytical role.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:
- Manages and works closely with department leadership to oversee, track, and report expenditures of large, complex budget
- Works in conjunction with the Finance Administrator for Facilities Work Order System including, cost, and billing management
- Develops financial statements and provides reports to department director on regular and requested basis.
- Documents and reports complex financial analyses for defined departments or areas.
- Projects and develops budgets for assigned department(s).
- Supervises/conducts departmental accounting operations and activities including approval and processing of payment requests, journal entries, salary reclass, purchase requisitions, and other transactions.
- Interacts with vendors and internal finance department in regard to compliance with UAB bid policy, contracts, and procedures.
- Develops methodologies to prepare analyses to address specific questions, concerns, and requests for the information presented by senior administrators.
STARTING ANNUAL RATE OF PAY: %2450,050.00 - %2465,400 (Commensurate with experience & qualifications)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Candidates with experience in financial management:accounts receivables and payable, general ledger, reconciliations, etc., with a heavy emphasis on intermediate/advanced Excel in an academic setting are STRONGLY encouraged to apply. UAB Oracle Finance System experience is preferred, but not required.Six Sigma, LEAN or TQM skills not required.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS:
Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive vehicle in performance of University business. Current underwriting guidelines include possession of a valid driverrsquo;s license, issued in the United States; at least 21 years of age; at least three years of driving experience; maintaining an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

- Financial skills:Expert knowledge in navigating and developing financial spreadsheets and other instruments. The incumbent provides the professional financial management that leadership relies on to effectively manage.
- Detail oriented: In preparing and analyzing reports, must pay attention to detail.
- Business skills: Must have a general knowledge of how businesses function and of how financial markets work.
- Strong interpersonal and presentation skills: Necessary to manage the various relationships associated with financial analysts work.
- Communications skills: Proven ability to communicate effectively, in written and oral forms, using positive interpersonal skills with a variety of stakeholders in an efficient and timely manner.
- Interpersonal: Ability to function as an effective team member to build productive, collaborative relationships to achieve program goals and objectives.
- Customer service: Providing exceptional customer service is critical to the success of the department but must be done within the context of fiscal controls. The incumbent is the representative of assigned areas and, as such, must always adhere to policies and procedures. The successful incumbent is a professional who is respected for both service and control.
- Integrity: Strong ethics, with the ability to manage confidential data. By maintaining controls within assigned areas, the incumbent assures that fiscal integrity is maintained. Through service and control, the incumbents make a strong contribution to the mission of the department and University.
PERSONAL:
Required to possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the duties and responsibilities of this position to include:
Lifting and carrying a minimum of twenty (20) pounds.
Perform tasks requiring climbing stairs, bending, stooping, sitting at a computer for long periods of time, kneeling, and walking between and within buildings on campus.
