The Tax Analyst provides financial information and reports by primarily preparing journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, assisting with monthly and year-end closings, as well as maintaining internal financial controls and procedures. In this role you will:
- Prepare and file monthly sales and use tax returns
- Prepare monthly journal entries and reconciliations of sales and use tax accounts
- Review and ensure accurate accounting of use tax accrued on the Company's U.S. purchases
- Research and identify proper taxation of the Company's purchases, including monitoring for changes in state tax laws and regulations
- Validate customer exemption certificates
- Identify and implement improvements ensuring complete, accurate, and efficient sales and use tax function
- Contact state and local government agencies to resolve outstanding issues
- Ensure the company is compliant with state and local jurisdiction filing and reporting requirements.
- Assist with sales and use tax audits including reconciliations of years under audit and preparation of responses to information document requests and related inquiries
- Prepare federal income tax returns (proforma) and assist with the preparation of the consolidated federal tax returns (Form 1120).
- Prepare separate & unitary state income tax returns
- Respond to notices from tax authorities and tax audits.
- Assist with various special projects or tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting required. CPA and/or Masters in Tax are preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of tax experience with an emphasis on US domestic Sales and Use and income tax compliance from a public accounting and/or corporate tax department of a corporation.
- Tax experience should include sales and use. and income tax compliance.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Tools, particularly Microsoft Excel
- PeopleSoft experience is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent analytical skills and strong attention to detail
- Ability to work and function independently and in a team
- Must be honest, ethical, and uphold company values
- Excellent organizational skills
Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of tax laws and regulations as well as generally accepted accounting principles.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with strong detail orientation. Ability to develop recommendations and make decisions.
- Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to clearly present complex material and recommendations to diverse audiences.
- Sound business judgment including ability to look at issues from a non-tax perspective.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with frequent deadlines and in a high pressure environment .
