The Department of Taxes' Compliance Division seeks a talented
individual who wants to support public programs through the accurate and
equitable collection of Vermont taxes. This position will be involved
with the review of taxpayer records for compliance and provide education
to taxpayers.
Key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Oversees the quality of audit work and develops procedures to
improve the quality of service to the taxpayers, while maintaining
efficient and effective audit outcomes. Consults with pertinent
department staff on the development of Department programs and
procedures.
- Responsible for assisting Tax Audit Section Assistant Chief,
Compliance Audit Manager, as well as audit staff handling the more
difficult cases/situations. Provides guidance on the more complex
tax cases, researching difficult questions and provide concise
answers.
- Responsible for handling all personnel issues that arise with the
staff, including interviewing, hiring, dealing with discipline
issues, and preparing annual performance evaluations. Responsible
for evaluating the training needs of the staff and developing
in-service training programs and materials as needed.
- Supervises audit staff administering audit programs. Develops and
monitors workload, performance, and accomplishments of staff.
Designs and implements internal control procedures related to audit
programs and outcomes. Monitors and controls the daily workflow
adjusting schedules to meet the section's deadlines. Prepares
reports related to audit work outcomes and activities.
- Acts as the Compliance Audit Manager in their absence.

## About the Compliance Division
The Compliance Division is responsible for promoting and ensuring
Vermont taxpayer compliance, with a focus on early intervention,
education, outreach, and fairness. We value service, integrity, and
employee growth, as we aim to support Vermont communities effectively
and efficiently. Our team includes auditors, tax examiners, analysts,
tax collection officers, and support staff.
Background Checks
This position will primarily support the Department of Taxes. Candidates
must agree to be fingerprinted and pass a background check to be
eligible for this position, which will involve access to sensitive
federal tax information. Background checks are required by the Internal
Revenue Service and are authorized under Vermont law. 3 V.S.A. 241. In
accordance with VDT Standard Operating Procedure 2018-01, Background
Investigations, Vermont and national criminal record checks will be
conducted on all candidates. Candidates will have the right to withdraw
their application before fingerprinting or a background check is
conducted.
