The Role
Senior Managers/Managers in our State and Local Tax (SALT) practice oversee multiple engagements for clients that range from multi-national corporations to early stage starts-ups. SALT Senior Managers/Managers must possess strong technical knowledge in preparing and reviewing state income tax returns, including being proficient with tax return preparation software. In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience with and/or an interest in corporate, pass-through and individual state tax planning and consulting. SALT Senior Managers/Managers participate in identifying value-added planning opportunities and communicating with clients and financial managers. SALT Senior Managers/Managers must possess and maintain strong written and oral presentation skills, conduct research on various client issues, and supervise Senior Associates, Experienced Associates and Associates. SALT Senior Managers/Managers can expect to:
- Provide ASC 740 tax provision preparation, review, and support services to clients on complex engagements
- Conduct primary and secondary review of complex state tax returns – including corporate and pass-through filings
- Work with state taxing authorities to manage and close all state income tax audits for our clients
- Maintain communication with clients to ensure satisfaction, meet deadlines, remain current on legislative changes, and lead change effectively
- Engage in business development activities (i.e. prepare proposals; present in webinars, collaborate with other service lines to present a comprehensive tax strategy to prospective and current clients, etc.)
- Supervise train, mentor, and evaluate Interns, Associates and Senior Associates
- Receive formal corporate tax training, on the job training, direct feedback from top tax leaders, and the opportunity to pursue additional training through internal and external resources.
The Requirements
- 5+ years relevant work experience in an accounting firm and/or a multi-state business, with at least 3 to 4 years of SALT experience
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree required
- Accounting (preferred), Finance, Economics, or related degree
- Advanced credential allowing for client representation before the Internal Revenue Service required (i.e. CPA or JD)
- Self-starter with the initiative to seek out opportunities and ability to work successfully in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a natural facilitator
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
- Proficient use of technology including MS Excel, MS Word, Adobe PDF. Additional proficiency in GoSystems Tax, OneSource Income Tax, ProSystems Fx, Axcess Tax, or CorpTax is a strong plus
