CBIZ and CBIZ CPAs is in search of a Subject Matter Expert for Pass-Through entities. The ideal candidate will bring expanded expertise as it relates to working with pass-through entity practice, especially LLCs and Partnership Clients. Currently, our tax practice serves in excess of 32,000 pass-through entity clients. Given the rapid growth our team is experiencing, we are in need of a high-level candidate, so that we can maintain an acceptable level of responsiveness to our offices' consultation needs in this area.
Essential Functions and Primary Duties
Provide tax consultation to tax professionalsin our practice offices on a variety of client tax matters throughout our national footprint.
Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for complex questions from our practice offices involving pass-through taxation, such as mergers/acquisitions, equity-based compensation, contingent interests, profit/loss allocations (including waterfall and target capital allocations), profits interests, treatment of debt and quasi-debt instruments, impact of recourse vs. nonrecourse financing, tiered partnership issues, special basis adjustments, IRS audits, conflicts of interest among equity holders and the entity, partner/member/shareholder agreements, construction industry long-term contract methods, installment reporting, private letter ruling requests, etc.
Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for tax compliance reporting questions involving pass-through taxation, such as evolving information disclosure requirements, amended return procedures, administrative adjustment requests, partnership representative matters, etc.
In addition to providing client consultation in a variety of tax technical areas, we expect this person to contribute to the National Tax Office’s thought leadership programs, training programs, and risk management initiatives. This includes ongoing familiarity with trending legislative, administrative, and judicial developments. This would supplement current resources performing in those areas.
Preferred Qualifications
12+ years of tax partnership experience with a top a top-tier firm
Bachelor’s degree in accounting
CPA, Masters in Taxation or JD/LLM
Strong proficiency with tax research subscription services including Bloomberg Tax, Thomson Reuters Checkpoint, CCH AnswerConnect, and Tax Analysts.
Strong desire to be a part of and contribute to the growth of a high performing client focused team
Have a consulting mindset and approach to client interaction and expectations. Recognize that we are most effective when we become an extension of our clients’ teams.
Experience leading other professionals and acting in a manner that motivates, inspires, and develops junior team members
Proven leader in the delivery of high-quality work that exceeds client expectations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong email etiquette
Eagerness to be responsive at all times
Proven track-record of success in high pressure, time-constrained environments
Top-tier organizational skills and attention to detail
Self-starter and entrepreneurial nature
Minimum Qualifications Required
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in Accounting, Taxation or related field preferred
10 years of experience in public accounting or related field
10 years supervisory experience
Must have active CPA or equivalent certification
Ability to manage deadlines, work on multiple assignments and prioritize each assignment as necessary
Proficient use of applicable technology
Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of organization, both internally and externally
Proven high level of business integrity, client service and leadership skills
Must be able to travel based on client and business needs
The annual salary target for this job in this market is $300,000-$550,000. The specific compensation for this role will be determined based on the education, experience, and skill set of the individual selected for this position.
