Probationary Period: (1) One Year
General Purpose for Job: Maintain the integrity of all records pertaining to the Allen County and the Allen County Tax Map Office. Assist the general public, land owners, legal and government representatives with inquiries pertaining to these records.
Reporting Structure for Department Director or Administrator: Tax Map Technician
First-level Supervisor: Tax Map Supervisor
DUTIES (The duties listed below are illustrative of the work performed by this classification. All duties are essential functions of the job unless otherwise noted. The percentage of time allocated to each group of duties is approximate.)
50% - Create/Update Maps and databases
- Perform research activities at the courthouse to create/update maps along with establishing and/or correcting chain of ownership.
- Gather data from surveys, real estate deed descriptions and other legal descriptions to create/update various tax, road and GIS maps.
- Scan new surveys and plats to update maps and databases.
- Use GIS and related software to create/update maps, databases and data layers along with being creative in producing special map products and reports.
- Maintain parcels of land, new transfers, and other records and files showing property lines.
- Computes acreages and assign land values to split properties for Auditor's office.
- Use GIS software to review, query, retrieve, and print property map information.
40% - Conveyance Reviews and Office Correspondences
- Research and respond to information requests from other government offices, realtors, attorneys and the general public
- Retrieve, review and interpret surveys and legal documents (e.g., real estate deeds and transfers) to verify land ownership, tax mailing address, property address, property location, lot dimensions, etc.
- Review and process deeds, property splits, etc.
- Reproduces tax map copies for public use using a printer, plotter or copy machine
- Provide verbal and written responses, preparing simple to moderately complex written correspondence as needed
10% - Miscellaneous
- Assist other staff with inquiries, deed reviews, legal descriptions, transfers, etc. as needed
- Conduct research (Recorder's Office, files, and database) of legal documents to insure they meet Allen County Conveyance Standards.
- Work cooperatively with other agencies, departments and the general public to support the Engineer's mission to serve the public
- Attend and actively participate in department and other meetings
- Gather and compile data as requested by the Engineer
- Perform other related duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education and Experience: Associate's degree in GIS, engin
