Tax Staff Accountant at BluSky

Brief Description

The Senior Tax Accountant is a key role on the BluSky Tax team that primarily supports the indirect tax compliance function and, to a lesser extent, the direct tax compliance function. The successful candidate will be responsible for sales and use tax compliance including reporting, researching, consulting, and planning activities for the multi-state and multi-office environment. BluSky offers a flexible, hybrid work schedule (2-3 times a week in the office) after an initial training period.

Salary range: $70,000- $80,000

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

• Prepare and review sales and use tax returns for state and local jurisdictions.
• Assist with sales and use tax audits.
• Respond to correspondence and inquiries from tax authorities and resolve outstanding tax issues.
• Participates in the development, planning and execution of sales tax compliance strategies.
• Manage and maintain sales and use tax registrations and certificates.
• Oversee the property tax compliance function for state and local jurisdictions. Review and address property tax assessments.
• Work closely with the Licensing and Risk teams to ensure companywide reporting accuracy.
• Ensure tax compliance using the company’s ERP system, tax research software and other technology systems.
• Collaborate with the Accounting Department and other Departments on tax matters as required.
• Perform other ad-hoc duties as assigned, including support of the federal and state income tax functions.
• Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.

Qualifications & Requirements

• 4+ years of accounting experience, preferably at least two in a public accounting firm.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in indirect tax compliance.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex tax regulations and apply them to business operations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, with intermediate Excel skills.
• Ability to organize and multi-task, while working effectively under pressure to meet strict deadlines.
• Capable of working independently and with limited supervision.
• Must present a highly professional image and attitude.
• Must be very detailed oriented, self-motivated and a team player.
• Strong work ethic and commitment to a thorough self-review of all work products.
• Solid interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and in writing.
• BS degree in Accounting or Finance

Travel

Occasional travel. (Less than 25% of time) Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected for training or meetings.
