FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, is seeking candidates for the Teacher Assistant position in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences - Child Development Center.
Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. JOB SUMMARY:
The Teacher Assistant will assist the regular teacher in the supervision and care of infant, toddler and preschool-aged children in the Child Development Center Program. The teacher assistant will also help in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities for infant, toddler and preschool-aged children.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in planning and execution of developmentally appropriate activities for infants, toddlers and preschool-aged children.
- Assist the regular teacher in supervising the care of infant, toddler and preschool-aged children.
- Serve as the primary teacher in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Participate as a team member in the planning and execution of daily activities.
- Assist in the maintenance of appropriate records.
- Demonstrate confidence in teaching and knowledge of infants and early care practices. Model appropriate behaviors for FVSU student participants, parents and observers in the
- center.
- Participate as needed with meal service and sanitation to maintain a clean, safe environment.
- Perform work on a day-to-day basis within the framework of standard policies and procedures.
- Attend meetings and trainings to support objectives of the Child Development Center. Assume other tasks as deemed necessary to achieve program objectives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates degree in Early Childhood, Infant & Child Development, Early Care & Learning or related field OR a High School Diploma/GED with a Child Development Associate (CDA).
- One (1) year experience working with children with diverse needs in a daycare center-based program.
- Current Pediatric First Aid/CPR credential preferred and must be obtained prior to end of probationary period
- Good communication skills, flexibility and team work
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with children birth to five years of age.
- Bachelor's degree
