Purpose of Your Position
Provide instructional and non-instructional services to students in assigned group of infants/ toddlers, preschoolers and/or school age children under the general supervision of a certified special education teacher.

- Design and implements an overall curriculum based on individual needs that reflects knowledge of child development and specialized techniques appropriate for VI students
- Works with students located at both campuses on an individual basis in classroom or treatment room setting according to the mandates of IEP/IFSP
- Maintains compliance re: daily session notes, progress reports etc. as per regulatory agencies
- Works effectively with parents, teaching staff and other professionals directly involved in the care and treatment of the student to enhance the use of vision and/or minimize the impact of visual impairments on learning
- Carries a caseload of SEIT and/or EI students as assigned by principal if needed
- Participates as required in all meetings, conferences with parents and school districts regarding the student’s progress and /or welfare
- Use accurate assessment skills to perform functional vision evaluations with written reports reflecting current knowledge of visual impairments and child development; able to communicate results effectively in both written and verbal formats
- Actively participate in the creation and implementation of an individual and School wide Professional Development Plan that inspires personal growth, informs teaching practices and promotes understanding of the NYS Teaching Standards
- Completes related service billing, progress notes and documentation in a timely manner according to established deadlines
- Perform other tasks to support the operations of the school as assigned by School Administration
Education Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field
- Permanent New York State Certification as Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and Special Education
- Complete practicum in special education with specialization in blind/visually impaired
- Experience with children with various orthopedic, developmental and/or multiple impairments especially those related to vision
Employee Requirements:
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written); good problem-solving skills; strong organizational skills; ability to relate to families and work collaboratively with other agency representatives
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently
- Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies
- Must meet the general health requirements set fourth by the policies of Coleman School which includes a medical and physical examination
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
- Perform tasks that may involve exposure to the children’s blood/body fluids
- Must be able to assist in the evacuation of children if necessary
- Must hold valid drivers license and be able to travel safely throughout community
- Able to work in a variety of environments such as family residences, day care centers and/or public school buildings
Working Conditions:
- Will work in a well-lighted and ventilated area
- Will be subject to frequent interruptions
- May be asked to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary
Hourly Rate:
$150/Hour.
