A surgical instrument technician is an individual responsible for sterilization and preparation of instruments and other areas of an operating or surgical procedure room. The primary responsibility of this individual is to prepare surgical instruments for use. This involves cleaning, preparation for sterilization, sterilization, inventory, and maintenance of the instrumentation. Overseen by the Lead Sterile Processing Technician. Reports directly to the Perioperative Services Director.

Required Qualifications:

• Understands aseptic techniques and the practice of tray design and sterile procedure.Extensive knowledge of medical supplies,equipment, and surgical instrumentation. General knowledge of Central Service operations and organization. Speaks, reads and writes English.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 1-2 years working with medical supplies, surgical instruments and sterilization equipment preferred.
• Surgical Tech Certificate preferred and CPR
• Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
• Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
