Technology Support Specialist I
Primary Purpose:
Perform on-site technical support to install and maintain computer hardware, multimedia equipment, video systems, network resources, software applications, and other technology resources throughout the district. Respond to incident requests by diagnosing, reconfiguring, or repairing hardware, software, and resources as necessary. Supports teleconferencing, distance learning, library automation, networked software, web page implementation, and student information systems (TxEIS) as well as other information technology resources.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Associates degree in computer science, electronic, or comparable experience is preferred.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Knowledge of computer workstation hardware and interface setup
- Knowledge of computer software operating systems and applications
- Ability to install, maintain, and repair technology resources and peripherals such as printers, scanners, network adapter cards, sound cards, and video devices.
- Ability to diagnose network problems and perform corrective action(s)
- Knowledge to support information processing services
Experience:
- Completed coursework in computer science or two years of work experience in a similar position.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Installation:
- Install and upgrade technology resources and peripherals throughout the district.
- Install network cabling and network peripherals throughout the district.
- Relocate technology resources, peripherals, and media resources as needed.
- Install and configure software.
Technical Support:
- Provide technical assistance to all district faculty and staff for effective and efficient use of information technology resources and services to include data processing (Ascender) operations, user interface, grade automation program, and user access.
- Support information technology projects such as distance learning, interactive white boards, and other classroom technology.
- Provide technical oversight and support for video operation and distribution.
- Support library automation equipment and software.
- Support learning management system software and services.
- Support single sign-on (SSO) software and services.
- Manage rostering, data integration, and other data-sharing services with textbook publishers and other software and service providers.
- Provide other information technology support as assigned.
Equipment Repair and Maintenance:
- Diagnose and repair information technology resources including printers, workstations, servers, media equipment, and video resources.
- Provide preventative maintenance as required.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repair, and support activities to include fixed asset inventory.
- Maintain records of time and materials required to perform repairs, services, and support.
- Manage the disposition of assets along with all requisite record-keeping.
Safety:
- Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, carrying, etc.
- Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
