Technician
The Technician provides comprehensive technical support for the Ohio office's load management equipment, as well as its Wide Area Network (WAN) satellite/radio and cellular data communications systems. Additionally, this role supports member cooperatives using Ohio's WAN data communications system for their Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Automated Meter Reading (AMR) systems. Responsibilities include testing, repairing, and maintaining field equipment, telecommunications systems, data loggers, and spare inventory.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**
- Repair defective test equipment used in testing electronic equipment related to load management and WAN satellite/cellular data communications systems. Maintain work order records, and manage the radio switch for load management and WAN data communication systems.
- Track and process computerized radio switch installation work orders and shipping records.
- Manage shipping and receiving for radio switch installation work orders and radio equipment used by member cooperatives.
- Handle physical and electronic inventories, order replacement parts and shop/field supplies as needed, and ensure the shop areas are clean and organized.
- Perform planned and emergency maintenance on Ohio load management system equipment, including radio and satellite communications systems, telemetry, and other electronic devices. Install new load management field equipment (excluding consumer radio-controlled switches) and WAN satellite, radio, and cellular data communications equipment.
- Conduct bench testing of new radio switches and those returned for repair. Troubleshoot and maintain radio switches and all other field equipment used in Ohio's load management system.
- Perform annual inspections of Ohio equipment buildings and small field enclosures. Conduct cleanup and minor structural repairs as needed.
- Train member cooperative personnel on load management radio switch installation procedures and respond to inquiries regarding the field operations of Ohio's load management system.
- Assist member cooperatives in connecting SCADA and AMR systems to Ohio's WAN satellite, radio, and cellular communications system.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications:**
- **Education:** An Associate degree in electronics engineering is preferred. Courses in AC and DC electronics, solid-state electronics (including discrete and integrated digital circuits), and radio and satellite communications are desirable. Willingness to obtain a valid FCC general class radio-telephone operator's license is preferred. Coursework in computer applications and programming is highly desirable. Relevant work experience may substitute for part of the educational requirements.
- **Licenses and Certifications:** A valid FCC general class radio-telephone operator's license is preferred. A valid driver's license is required.
- **Experience:**
- 0-2 years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of radio transmitting and receiving equipment, small dish satellite communications equipment, and telemetry equipment is desired.
- Experience in overall system planning and design work (both system and component level) is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of electronics, including fundamental test procedures for adjusting communication equipment to meet FCC requirements, is required.
- Working knowledge of personal computers is needed.
**Abilities & Skills Required:**
- Thorough knowledge of advanced electronics and test procedures for adjusting communication equipment to comply with FCC requirements.
- Proficiency with personal computers.
- Ability to analyze and solve complex technical data communications problems involving radio, telephone, satellite, and computer equipment.
- Skilled in using electronic test equipment for troubleshooting, repairing, and adjusting FCC-licensed communications equipment and other load management hardware.
- Ability to design electronic circuitry required to interface computer and communications equipment.
- Ability to prepare various engineering reports.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
**Physical Requirements:**
- Frequent kneeling, bending, walking long distances, close visual acuity, and considerable use of hands and tools are required.
- Occasionally, the employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, work at heights up to 15 feet, and be exposed to hazardous conditions such as high voltage.
**Work Environment:**
- Travel may involve up to 50% of workdays for installations, maintenance, and repairs of electronic equipment.
- Working outside normal schedules may require long vehicle drives and extended workdays to reach multiple field locations for tasks.
- A "24-hour On-Call” rotation with the rest of the department is required.
- Regular exposure to hazardous conditions near high voltage systems is part of the job.
Compensation:Payrate is based on experience and must be local to Central Ohio
